Pre-Pointe

is a technical ballet class with emphasis being on the strengthening of the ankle and foot in preparation for pointe work. This class uses traditional Classical Ballet exercises in addition to exercises with a heavy focus on releve and correct placement of the foot, ankle, knee and hip. Dancers work on a deeper understanding and ability to use each metatarsal and muscle of the foot and ankle. The student will develop a better control of the lower extremities so when pointe shoes are added, they are strong and knowledgeable enough to be successful with less chance of injury.

Power Pilate classes offers dynamic and challenging fusion of traditional Pilates principles with added intensity and strength training elements. These classes are designed to increase muscular strength, tone, and endurance while maintaining a low-impact approach, making them suitable for a variety of fitness levels.

Intensive Ballet Class

Our Intensive Ballet Class is designed for the serious and dedicated dancer at the Levels 4 and 5. These classes are offered as an extra ballet class per week for our dancers and allows them to continue strengthening their bodies through ballet technique. In this class we continue educating our dancers in classical ballet technique as well as continue strengthening both their bodies and ankles for pointe work. Participating in this extra class allows dancers to focus on specific ballet concepts and become a more well rounded dancer.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre will feature the specific style of dance that appears in Broadway shows, blending various techniques in Ballet, Jazz and Tap to characterize and tell a story through movement, music and acting. Modern

Modern Dance aims to teach the release of movements, balance and strength of the body while allowing dancers to feel gravity working with them through this expressive form of movement. Technical studies include, but are not limited to Horton, Graham, and Cunningham styles. Dancers will further their understanding of muscular control through release and sustained movement as well as increase their performance quality of dance. Although Modern technique is a big part of training, the actual choreography of modern dance relies on a true freedom of movement. Contemporary Dance has formed from the merge of these various techniques, thus creating a wide variety of styles of Modern Dance fused as one. Contemporary dance choreography will be explored as well in our Modern Dance classes.

Pointe

Concentration on preparing the feet and ankles for pointe work through strengthening exercises and technique is the foundation of this class. A minimum of two years of training in a twice a week classical ballet program will be required before a dancer will be considered for pointe shoes, and then only as the instructor feels the dancer is ready physically and mentally for pointe shoes. The pointe lesson must be accompanied by a classical ballet technique class of an hour and a half in addition to the Pointe class taken each week. Proper shoe fitting will be guided for each dancer to improve their development.

Pre-Dance

Pre-Dance is the only combination class offered at the School of Goldsboro Ballet. This class is available for students ages 3-5 with or without previous dance experience. The class centers around age appropriate instruction focusing on teaching basic movement concepts, beginner Ballet technique that is appropriate for the development of the students. Creative Movement concepts are incorporated throughout the class to further the enjoyment and cross curricular instruction to include enhancing brain development and stimulation through the art of dance. Appropriate stretches and strengthening exercises are utilized in a fun, creative environment. Students learn discipline, structure, creative expression, spatial awareness, movement qualities and much more. We teach 20-30 minutes of Pre-Tap at the beginning of the class to incorporate rhythm, ankle strength and basic tap technique introduction. Our philosophy, concerning students ages 3-5, is that students will develop strength rhythm and timing through the introduction of tap at this young age. Pre-Ballet curriculum crosses smoothly into Pre-Tap skills to enhance both techniques and provide a necessary state change for student's engagement in instruction. The class aims to have students develop a true love for their dance.

Gymnastics is offered in order to give our dancers another opportunity to increase their agility, flexibility and strength. Safety and understanding of pre-proficiency skills will be first and foremost in our classes. Tumbling is the only portion of gymnastics we offer, as we are a Ballet school and this is offered purely supplementally for dancers.
