2025-2026 In-Studio Classes

Pointe

Students must get approval from the teacher to register for this class. Recommended for students with a minimum of three years of pointe work. Students are required to take the ballet class prior to the pointe class. The pointe class will consist of both barre and center work.

Pre-pointe

Students MUST get approval from the teacher in order to wear pointe shoes in this class. The class can be taken in ballet shoes; this will help to strengthen the feet for pointe shoes. This class is for students NEW to pointe or it has been several years since you took pointe classes. Students are required to take the ballet class prior to the pointe class. Recommended for adults already taking level 2 or higher who are interested in learning pointe work and preparing for pointe shoes. This class will focus on strengthening feet and ankles to prepare for pointe.

Level 5 Ballet

Recommended for adults with a minimum of four years of classical ballet training. This level will offer complex combinations at the barre and center focusing on both artistry and technique.

Level 4 Ballet

Recommended for adults with a minimum of three years of classical ballet training. This level is a continuation of level 3. The repetition and continued focus of all the previous levels is needed to refine all aspects of the barre and center.

Level 3 Ballet

Recommended for adults with a minimum of two years of classical ballet training. This level will continue to focus on the use of proper posture alignment at the barre and center. More complex combinations with concentration on the use and coordination of arms and head.

Level 2 Ballet

Recommended for adults with a minimum of one year of classical ballet training. This level focuses on refining the barre exercises. More advanced steps are introduced at the barre and center. Proper posture and body alignment during execution of the ballet vocabulary is an ongoing process while learning ballet.

Level 1 Ballet

Recommended for adults with no previous classical ballet training. Students will experience a full classical ballet class. The traditional barre work is introduced. The center work carries the concepts of the barre into the center; introducing ballet vocabulary, proper posture and body alignment.

Adult ballet

Adult ballet has been a core part of RSB since our founding. Whether you are an absolute beginner who wants to try ballet for the first time or have been dancing since you were 3 years old, we have a class for you. Levels in the Adult Ballet Program are finely tuned for maximum progress and taught by professional teachers. Emphasis is placed on developing pure clean technique, quality of movement, movement theory, and musicality.

Mommy & Me Ballet

Classical Ballet

Age-appropriate classes for each stage of a dancer’s training. A well developed and time proven syllabus draws upon select technique and styles from different schools of classical ballet while incorporating the evolving needs of today’s dancers. Student’s training emphasizes the understanding of body alignment, and the way to work correctly using proper muscles, while developing artistry, musicality, purity of line, and a movement quality that is free of mannerisms.

Adult Division

The Adult Division offers a variety of levels and classes for adults who wish to start dancing, return to a passion or are looking for a new form of exercise. Convenient and flexible class cards may be used during a five month period.

Boy’s Division

The Boy’s Division Scholarship Program promotes our mission to encourage boys to train in ballet! Working with a male teacher, they develop agility, stamina, flexibility, and strength.

Professional Division Ages 10 – 18

The Professional Division is a scholarship program for students who demonstrate potential for a career in dance. Admission is by audition. Students follow an intensive schedule of classes including ballet, pointe, boy’s class and contemporary technique. Professional Division students perform with Raleigh Dance Theatre and are frequently invited to perform with Carolina Ballet. Many have gone on to professional careers with Carolina Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Aspen/ Santa Fe Ballet, National Ballet of Flanders and Stuttgart Ballet among others.

Children’s Division Ages 6 – 18

Levels in the Children’s Program are finely tuned for maximum progress. Each level is guided by an age-appropriate syllabus developed by the faculty to ensure logical progression throughout their years of training. Students are evaluated for proper placement by the faculty and directors in regular meetings throughout the year. Emphasis is placed on muscle memory, developing strong healthy bodies and pure clean technique. Quality of movement, movement theory and musicality is introduced in the beginning levels and is refined as the student advances and matures.

Young Children’s Division Ages 4 – 6

The Young Children’s Division develops motor coordination, increases spatial and rhythmic awareness, in a creative, age appropriate learning environment. Classes introduce young children to the structure and discipline of a ballet class using ballet terminology and music.

The Raleigh School of Ballet schedules and designs its programs to help each child meet their personal goals. We strongly encourage our dancers to participate in summer classes and programs to further strengthen their training. Multiple and finely tuned class levels gradually transition students from the early basics to complex advanced work insuring consistent progress throughout their training. This gradual process stimulates the development of confidence and discipline and cultivates the love of dance.
