Classes

Musical Theater

Is your child drawn to musical theater? Our classes are the perfect blend of theatrical dance instruction and performing arts. Students will learn choreography from selected broadway musicals. With a little bit of group singing and a lot of dance, we will experiment with a variety of dance styles along with acting and developing character. This class is intended for students ages 8 and up.

Acrobatic Arts Classes®

Acrobatic Dance, commonly referred to as acro, is the fusion of classic dance technique and the precision of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. Acrobatic Arts Classes® are a foundational program for Acro Dance taught over 12 levels in progression: with each level building on the previous level’s requirements. It teaches students what they need to know about proper placement and technique so they will have the building blocks to progress safely and quickly from one level to the next. Theory classes including anatomy and choreography as well as practical classes in spotting ensure that Acrobatic Arts Certified Teachers understand how to properly introduce skills with excellent technique in a safe and fun environment. The material taught is based on true acro, preparing students to perform skills on a hard stage as part of a complete dance routine package, in five skill areas: flexibility, strength, limbering, balancing, and tumbling.The syllabus contains 12 levels with thoughtful progressions that take students and teachers from the very beginning to advanced levels. We love how well-rounded and progressive this program is and are looking forward to watching our students grow even more in their dance education.

Combination Classes- Ballet/Jazz/Tap

This dance class for kindergarteners through second graders dives into the fundamentals of ballet, jazz, and tap technique. Starting at the barre with a ballet warm-up and stretches, moving into basic jazz steps across the floor including combinations, and ending with rhythm and sounds for tap. For recital combination, students will perform two dances: jazz and tap.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a high-energy class that includes street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. This class encourages students to step outside the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.

Lyrical

Lyrical is the fusion of different dance styles (ballet, modern, jazz, etc.) stressing versatility and expression. This class focuses on self-expression, special awareness, and body movement. Ballet class or previous ballet training is highly recommended.

Ballet

Ballet dance is the foundation of all dance and will maximize the technique needed to be proficient in all other styles of dance. Ballet classes help with posture, balance, flexibility, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

Preschool Acrobatic Arts ®

The Preschool Acrobatic Arts ® program is designed to introduce physical literacy, coordination, creative movement, and basic acrobatic skills to students aged 4-6 years. This program includes lesson plans, music, and teaching props to take this early childhood program to a new level.

Rising Stars 3 & 6

Combining ballet, jazz, creative movement, and tap, this class will develop your child’s coordination as well as gain an understanding of basic dance concepts and terminology. This broad introduction to dance prepares them to choose their preferred dance classes when they get older. This class is intended for children aged 3-6.

Hippity Hip Hop

This high-energy hip-hop class incorporates a variety of old and new urban dance styles. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip-hop music. Hip hop dancing is very dynamic and helps the dancers, aged 5-7, improve flexibility, develop body balance, and coordination.

Twinkle Toes Creative Movement Dance

Designed for our youngest dancers ages 2-3, our Creative Movement Dance class is a great introduction into movement and music. Dancers will explore stretches, sounds, rhythms, and locomotor movement. Listening skills, taking turns, and following directions are practiced in our dance class even with the youngest students.

Statesville Stars Competitive Program

The Statesville Stars Competitive Program (ages six and up) is suitable for the more serious dancer with a sound technical background. We aim to provide dedicated dancers with technical training whilst providing them with performing opportunities in a variety of performance venues. Placement is based on the following criteria: technique, potential, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude and behavior in class, attendance, and stage presence. Dancers must audition for the competition team annually and be chosen by Statesville Dance Instructors and a selected panel of judges. Competitive choreography is danced at the end of year recital. A mandatory one-hour weekly ballet class is required to develop correct technique, placement and alignment. Must be able to attend all dance competitions throughout the year.
