Classes

Tap

Tap is a style of dance characterized by using the sounds of metal taps affixed to the heel and toe of the shoes. Dancers use these taps to strike the floor in different, yet intricate ways to create upbeat rhythms and a variety of sounds. A few of of the skills young dancers learn in tap class are: coordination, thinking-fast, and musicality.

Musical Theatre

In Musical Theatre, dancers will combine technique learned in ballet/jazz/hip hop classes while adding in the acting component. Dancers will learn about different Broadway musicals and dance to the songs and in the various styles that each musical embodies. Dancers will prepare for performances utilizing music from some of their favorite musicals throughout the year.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance class embodies the various technique learned during ballet and jazz. Lyrical class is a slower moving class utilizing a dancers’ control and fluidity, however leaps/turns/leg flexibility are also skills commonly learned during this class. Lyrical is always a favorite!

Jazz

In jazz class, dancers will continue working on their jazz style, as well as leaps/turns/strength/flexibility. Jazz class is typically an upbeat form of dance. This class will include isolated movements, precise leg, arm, and foot movements, jumps/leaps and turning. It is definitely an energetic style of dance!

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is most commonly known as street dance to Hip Hop music. At EDC, we use tasteful and appropriate Hip Hop/pop music in our classes. We typically love choosing the songs which are current and popular that dancers know the words to. We teach the technique of Hip Hop including isolations as well as fun combos, and improv. In Hip Hop class, we encourage dancers to find their inner funky side!

Creative Combo

Combo classes combine a small portion of tap/ jazz/ballet/acro. These classes are perfect for our youngest dancers to be introduced to a few different styles of dance in a short amount of time. As a part of this recreational dance class, throughout the year, dancers will learn the basic steps and prepare for a few different performances utilizing these different genres they are learning.

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles. Ballet class is where dancers build their technical abilities. These skills carry over into all other styles of dance. Ballet classes are structured to begin with exercises at the barre focusing on the feet, turn-out, and control. Then, dancers will go across the floor learning new skills such as turns and leaps. Last, dancers will move to center floor where they will learn variations and practice jumps.

Adult

Our adult recreational dance class is an hour and a half combination of hip hop, tap, and yoga. Each style of dance typically gets 30 minutes every week.

Acro

Acrobatics class is structured for dancers to work on their strength, flexibility, and tumbling skills. Class includes a small portion of conditioning for the body, as well as controlled tricks, stationary tricks, and tumbling tricks down the mat. Acro class utilizes fun props to help dancers master their skills safely.
