Classes

Special Abilities

We have a class that is designed to teach students who have physical, learning, and speech challenges. The class uses a series of movement patterns to help reconnect circuits in the brain and improve their movement skills like balance, coordination, and build confidence. Teachers are also able to adapt movements or work individually with students to help them achieve movements at their abilities even if they need additional support or equipment. * Currently Teen/Adult classes in South Charleston only.

Pre Combo

The most common first question we get asked is “How old does my student need to be to start dancing?” Answer 3-4 Years old students can participate in our Pre-Combo Class. This class begins with teaching basic movement skills, musicality, coordination, and socialization skills. As students display a need for more structure and challenge we add in beginning steps from both Ballet & Technique class. We use creative teaching methods, props, and games to connect with the young students. Terminology is also often kept simple and a characterization that they understand (example: Hide & Surprise = Jumping Jack, Playing Peek-A-Boo with a stuffed animal behind our legs = Plié)

Tap

The style that many parents dread and students love… because it require shoes that make noise. We believe this style of dance is best learned after the age of 6 because of the coordination of the brain and feet. Tap requires students to focus on intricate footwork to create musical rhythms. It teaches musicality, distinct articulation of the lower body and left/right sides, and timing with each other. *Currently not available at the South Charleston Location.

Technique

This class is unique to our studio. The dance world has a variety of dance forms that are all extremely similar to each other and they use variations on the same movements, music, and intent. These styles are Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Improv. Our studio has combined all of these styles to teach the movements and skills learned in each style; and base our recital dance on the personality and skills of the class. Technique Class focuses on flexibility, creativity, team work, and musical relationship.

Ballet

This classical style of dance is idealized with leotards, tutus, instrumental music, and structured movement patterns. While the style demands structure and repetition; the teachers at Dance Loft Plus try to bring that repetition in a variety of unique ways. This is to make the class more memorable and easier for students to remember the technique that has names in a different language. Ballet helps to build discipline, posture, grace, and patience.
