Classical Ballet Academy

Advanced level contemporary dance is based on several classical modern techniques. The techniques utilized in this class focus on proper alignment, use of correct rotation, spatial awareness and improvisation in order to prepare students for the rigors associated with ever growing and expanding choreographic demands in our present dance world. The class aims to mix kinesthetic understanding of movement with an exploration into the student’s personal performance skills.

Tap is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Explore Rhythm and musicality through the use of your feet. Students learn the basics to more advanced tap techniques in a fun environment where noise is encouraged.

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.

The classes following our Pre-Ballet classes are our Level 1 classes. The format of these classes follows a similar pattern, although with more structure. We continue to focus on technique while encouraging them to use their imagination. Ballet classes enhance self-confidence while teaching technique, grace and poise. Dancers will advance in their technique and be able to execute more developed choreography. These classes are a natural progression from our pre-school classes and we also welcome children who would like to experience ballet for the first time, and look forward to nurturing their love of dance. The student will now be on their journey of study to become a ballet dancer, and through our Academy will be well equipped to do so.

Your child will enter the magical world of dance while encouraging their confidence as they jump for joy. This class introduces basic ballet positions, jumping, galloping and swaying to the dance music. We encourage these little ones to use their imagination as we use props to tell stories with our dancing. The children will practice their basic technique while also focusing on their fine and gross motor skills. They will practice those skills with finger play and fun steps like skipping. One of our primary goals is to encourage children to learn basic technique, follow instruction and to foster their imagination.

By offering dance classes at a local elementary school, children have the opportunity to experience what they might not otherwise have. Parents who have a child in grades 3rd-5th may sign up for this free after school program. Classes include a performance for their families at the end of the session.

Our Pre-Professional class will rent one other costume.

Hip Hop dancers can wear comfortable clothes, pants or tights that cover the knees. Hip Hop 1/2/3 will wear tan jazz shoes. Hip Hop 4/5 and up will wear white Balera Canvas High-Top Sneakers that are exclusively for their dance class. Style number WL9381. These will be worn in our end of the year performance.

Lyrical/Modern Dance and Contemporary dancers should wear solid color leotard and footless tights that cover the knees. Barefoot or slippers for Contemporary classes and ballet slippers for Lyrical Modern classes. Hair should be in a ponytail or bun.

Tan jazz shoes with a heel should be worn for jazz dancers. Tap students may wear Velcro strap tap shoes. Level 4 & older may wear tap oxfords. Level 5, 6 & 7 should have oxfords, but may also wear tap shoes with heels (please check with instructor before purchasing). Hair must be in a ponytail or bun.

The ballet technique taught at Classical Ballet Academy is a combination of various methods, including Vagonova, Cecehetti, and Royal Academy of Dance. Students are carefully placed according to their age and ability. Our instructors have years of experience and are qualified to place dancers in the appropriate level. Pointe work will begin only when the student has reached the level of physical maturity and development necessary. Correct training, begun at the correct age is important to insure proper technique and to avoid injury. All students on pointe are required to have a minimum of two technique classes per week and must have approval by the instructor. Beginning pointe is offered each summer and students must be at least 10 years of age.
