About Portland Dance Center

Led by owner Claire Music Dye, a seasoned dancer and instructor with extensive training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, acrobatics, and ballroom, alongside profound experience in Musical Theatre, the studio fosters a love for movement and artistic expression. Claire is joined by a talented team, including Olivia Ontkean (Hip Hop, Contemporary), Sarah Baltazar (Lyrical, Ballet, Improvisation), and Abby Stonewall Kapp (Tap, Acro). PDC boasts a diverse curriculum featuring Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, Modern, Acrobatic Arts, Musical Theatre, and Breakdance. For young dancers aged 2-6, programs like "Dance with Me," "Tiny Tots," and "Pre-Ballet/Tap & Kinder Ballet/Tap" build foundational skills in a fun environment. Students in Grades 1-12 can explore robust training, with options for recreational fun or advanced instruction. The studio prioritizes personalized instruction with small class sizes and dedicated classes in flexibility, conditioning, and core strength. Beyond technical proficiency, Portland Dance Center cultivates strong moral character and self-esteem, empowering students to discover their inner artist. The studio offers abundant performance opportunities, including community events, a winter performance, and an end-of-year recital. PDC also features a strong competitive program, with Claire actively coaching students for prestigious competitions and high school dance teams, including the successful Sunset High School Dance Team. Classes

Tap

Tap is a lively, fun dance making rhythm with your feet. Excellent for coordination and fun for all ages.

Contemporary

Modern dance is the name for a modern concert dance genre. It is not a specific dance technique, but a collection of methods developed from modern and post-modern dance and can take on many forms. Lyrical dance is a wonderful combination of basic Jazz and Ballet, where students learn to stretch or snap movements and interpret the music in choreography.

Technique

This class is for dancers with at least two years of experience who want to improve balance for multiple turns as well as add strength and height to their jumps.

Jazz

Jazz class features the latest dance moves and across-thefloor work including kicks, turns, leaps, and dance routines.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a high-energy class that highlights popular dance steps seen in current music videos. Music and choreography are age appropriate.

Flexibility/Conditioning

A strength and conditioning class which also includes turns. This class will make you sweat!

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all other forms of dance and a must for serious dancers. Students learn classical positions, barre work, center floor, leaps and turns.

Acrobatics

This class incorporates mat gymnastics into dance. Students learn tumbling passes which they can use to highlight dance moves.

Pre-Ballet/Tap & Kinder Ballet/Tap

Open to ages 4-6, young students experience the joy of dance in our most popular Combination class. We use lots of props and fun songs to peak their interest. Ballet and tap shoes, along with a small bag, are required for this class.

Tiny Tots

Children (ages 3-4) are given a fun introduction to the basics of dance. This program provides a solid foundation for future success in ballet, jazz, tap, and other styles. Ballet and tap shoes along with a small bag are required for this class.

Dance with Me

This 30 minute classis an excellent introduction to the world of dance and lots of fun for both dancer and parent! Class is structured to stimulate coordination skills, listening skills, balance, music interpretation, creative movement and motor development in the youngest dancers, aged 1-3 years.
