Pointe Classes

Pointe is by instructor approval only. It will not be charged separately if the dancer is enrolled in the ballet class prior. There are a variety of things we look for in determining pointe eligibility. We do not have a deadline or yearly date for evaluations, they are ongoing. Dancers will go en pointe when instructors have deemed them “Ready.” Some of what we take into consideration… Emotional Maturity and Focus: Dancers should take direction and corrections well. They should be self-motivated in class and able to stay actively engaged mentally for the duration of class. They should have the ability to learn and memorize combinations quickly and without a lot of prompting. It is imperative that dancers who wish to go en pointe can have frank and honest discussions with their instructors about preparedness and ability. It is not personal, it is a matter of readiness and safety. Physical Maturity: The student must be at least 11 years old. The bones of the feet do not fully develop and harden until approximately 13-15 years old. A dancer must be strong enough to protect the bones before they are fully developed. Beginning pointe to early can permanently damage immature bones. Dancers will need to sign off with their physician before they will be allowed to go en pointe. Technique: They should have a solid knowledge of ballet technique and terminology. Dancers must have already developed a strong technical base in other ballet classes. Including but not limited to… Commitment Financial and Otherwise : Dancers must be enrolled in 2 ballet classes week + Pre-Pointe/Pointe Class for pointe. They must also purchase pointe shoes and accessories, when needed. Pointe shoe prices range as do how often kids go through them.
