Classes

Combo Dance

These classes teach children the beginning fundamentals of ballet, tap, jazz, and tumbling. Dancers will gain flexibility, basic technique, and self-confidence through repetitive motor skill, coordination and rhythm practice.

Musical Theatre Dance

Here at our dance studio, we offer an exciting and engaging experience that combines the techniques of ballet and jazz dance with the learning styles used in Broadway shows. With a focus on musicality, rhythm, and coordination, you will have the opportunity to develop your dance skills in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, our Musical Theatre Dance class has something to offer everyone.

Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance is a style of dance that combines elements of various genres, including classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance. It is characterized by its fluid, expressive movements, often performed in bare feet and with a focus on improvisation and individual interpretation.

Acro / Tumbling

This class is designed for individuals interested in learning and improving their tumbling skills. The student will work on individual progression for floor exercise skills, strength and flexibility, as their skills permit.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop builds coordination using lots of isolated movements. This dance refers to street styles primarily that have evolved along with hip-hop music and culture. Hip hop is more freestyle than other dance forms.

Jazz

Jazz is a very popular, high-energy form of dance. Every single one of our jazz classes is always a ton of fun! Jazz is the style that you’ll typically see on Broadway. It combines kicks, leaps, jumps, turns, and everything in between! Learn body placement, movement, expression and proper technique in this class.

Tap / Triple Threat / Musical Theatre

A syncopated stylized form of movement, in which the student emphasizes the steps by rhythmic tapping on the floor with the heels and toes. Tap has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity and our instructors offer an excellent set of skill building experiences in these classes.

Ballet / Pointe

Ballet introduces and develops the creative discipline of classical dance. It is the foundation of all dance forms and is strongly recommended to all students. Pointe class is learning to dance on your toes. No child will be put on Pointe shoes until they are physically ready. Pointe is by invitation - let one of our instructors know if your child is interested in this challenging style.

A wonderful introduction to the fundamentals of movement, music, body awareness and self-expression. Incorporating basic ballet, tap, tumbling, and coordination steps. These classes are ideal for children to let them get a taste for many different dance styles.

Acro

Comfortable gymnastics clothes (leotard and shorts, or fitted, plain shorts or leggings) that will not fall in front of a dancer’s face when they tumble. No sweatpants, sweatshirts, or pajama pants. Students will remain barefoot. Hair is required to be pulled back, in a low ponytail, out of the dancer’s face, for each class they attend.

Hip Hop

Plain Shorts, or plain leggings, with a plain t-shirt, may be worn. No words or graphics. No sweatpants, sweatshirts, or pajama pants. Lightweight clean sneakers may be worn for Hip Hop; no bare feet.

Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, all Company Classes, and all other classes, except Hip Hop

Black leotard with tights; plain black formfitting Lycra or cotton shorts are acceptable. Ballet or Jazz shoes are required.

Ballet

The required dress code for ballet includes a black leotard, with black, suntan, or pink tights, with no additional clothing. Ballet shoes are also required of all students. Hair is required to be pulled back into a bun. Mr. Martins Ballet Classes will follow the Color Code for their level: Black - Level 3, Purple - Level 2, Blue - Level 1. Students will be required to purchase their own ballet leotard. Dancers will be allowed to wear their colored leotard to the rest of their classes on that evening, or they may change into a black leotard for additional classes. Additionally, a pink ballet belt and ballet shoes are required to be worn for ballet. Hair is required to be pulled back into a bun.
