While currently not accepting new registrations as the dance season has closed, the academy is dedicated to fostering success and confidence in every student through structured learning and instructor evaluations. Equilibrium Dance Academy offers a diverse range of dance disciplines, including foundational techniques in Ballet and Jazz, energetic Hip Hop, expressive Contemporary and Lyrical genres, and dedicated Acrobatics programs. They also feature instruction in Tap and Combo Classes. The academy boasts a talented team of instructors. Leading the artistic vision is Artistic Director Angelica Spilis, a certified Zumba Fitness instructor with a Masters of Arts Degree in Dance from Temple University. Ballet is instructed by Abigail Corr, who holds a BFA in Dance from the Hartt School. Eric Wood, owner of Checkmate Experience, LLC, brings his expertise to Hip Hop classes, while Wren Coleman, a Sharp Dance Company Member, teaches Acro. Apprentice Emma Sonnenblick, a member of The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble, contributes to Tap instruction. Nicole Wilkerson and Zach Robinson lead Combo Classes. Tuition is based on a yearly figure that is broken down into (10) monthly payments from September to June for each student. Tuition is priced per dancer not per family. The dance season runs from September - June and when you register your dancer they are committing for the full dance season.

Private Lessons

Equilibrium Dance Academy offers private lessons for children, teens and adults whether you are just starting to dance or you would like to work on your technique! Call the studio to talk about the options that we have for you or stop by during our regular business hours! Private lessons are not considered to be a regularly scheduled class and are not required to participate in our annual recital. Email us to schedule your private class!

Advanced Acro

For dancers who have already taken Intermediate Acro. Dancers must be proficient in flexibility, balance, coordination, and strength. This class is geared towards advanced students who will work on more difficult tricks such as aerials, and kip ups.

Intermediate Acro

For dancers who have already taken Beginner Acro. This class focuses on harder tricks such as back walkovers, front walkovers, inversion balances, and round offs. Dancers learn about muscle control and explore conditioning exercises with increased difficulty.

Beginner Acro

For dancers who have already taken Intro to Acro. Dancers work on basic stunts such as forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, and beginner balances. This class also focuses on flexibility and how to properly perform tricks.

Intro to Acro

For dancers ages 5-7 who are brand new to acrobatics. This class focuses on safety, flexibility, strength, and proper body, foot and leg positions.

Pre-Pointe

(Invitation Only) This class focuses on building the strength, flexibility, and alignment needed to safely and effectively work in pointe shoes. Dancers must be in Ballet 2 or Ballet 3 and must be 10+ years of age to eligible. This class helps build a continued knowledge of ballet, correct alignment, body awareness, core stability, and strong lower legs, ankles and feet that are required to wear and dance in pointe shoes safely. Pointe work also requires maturity in training and mental strength. Students may only purchase proper fitting pointe shoes when approved to go on pointe by the instructor; this may happen at different times for different dancers in the class based on progress. *There is no recital dance for this class.

Pointe

(Invitation Only) dancers must be in Ballet 2 or 3 and must be 10+ years of age or older. This class requires dancers to have a strong knowledge of ballet, correct alignment, body awareness, core stability, and strong lower legs, ankles, and feet. Pointe work also requires maturity in training and mental strength. Proper fitting pointe shoes are also required and must be approved by the ballet instructor. Taking an additional ballet class is required.

Ballet 3

Prior ballet experience is required. This class includes exercises at the barre, center work, and across the floor work. It strongly focuses on developing awareness of correct body alignment, vocabulary, technique, and carriage of the upper body, with corrections given by the instructor. More thoughtful discussions about artistry, origin of steps, anatomy and physiology, etc. are explored in our most advanced level. Careful practice and repetition help build physical strength as we continue to expand our knowledge of steps, which we are now working on increasing virtuosity in. While refined technique is always a focus in ballet, students are strongly encouraged to more freely explore artistic expression in steps, choreography, and class combinations.

Ballet 2

Prior ballet experience is required. This class includes exercises at the barre, center work, and across the floor work. It strongly focuses on developing awareness of correct body alignment, vocabulary, technique, and carriage of the upper body, with frequent corrections given by the instructor. Careful practice and repetition help build physical strength as we continue to expand our knowledge of steps, which we begin learning in their simplest form and advance them in terms of adding arm movements, changing tempo, etc. While refined technique is a focus, students also start to more freely explore artistic expression in steps, choreography, and class combinations.

Ballet 1

Prior ballet experience is required. This class is our first formal level of ballet and includes exercises at the barre, center work, and across the floor work. It strongly focuses on developing awareness of correct body alignment, vocabulary, and technique, with corrections and explanations given by the instructor. Careful practice and repetition help build physical strength as we continue to expand our knowledge of steps, which we begin learning in their simplest form and advance them in terms of adding arm movements, changing tempo, etc.

Pre-Ballet 2

For dancers ages 5-7 and must be in kindergarten to be considered for this class. who have taken 1-2 years of Pre-Ballet 1. This class continues and advances introductory material for formal ballet training where basics are learned through exploration, games, vocabulary, play, and repetition. Dancers start using the ballet barre in the Fall and begin to learn correct execution, proper placement and physical alignment in ballet. Dancers will develop a strong foundation for ballet technique with a focus towards body awareness, coordination, musicality, and ballet class etiquette.

Pre-Ballet 1

For dancers ages 5-7 and must be in kindergarten to be considered for this class. This class is an introduction to formal ballet training where basics are learned through exploration, games, vocabulary, play, and repetition. Dancers will develop a strong foundation for ballet technique with a focus towards body awareness, coordination, musicality, and ballet class etiquette.

Intro to Ballet

For dancers ages 8-12 who have no experience taking ballet and want to learn all of the basics. Dancers will work on technique, and a specific vocabulary of steps and positions.

Contemporary

Class consists of emphasizing the connection between mind and body, allowing dancers to express emotions and explore the human experience in a unique and individual way. Unlike ballet, contemporary dance encourages the use of gravity, floor work, and improvisation, offering dancers a unique opportunity for personal interpretation and creativity.

Beginner Lyrical

For dancers with little or no experience.

Lyrical 2

For dancers with 2-3 years of experience.

Lyrical 1

For dancers who have at least 1 year of experience.

Lyrical

Classes focus on style explorations such as blending jazz, ballet and modern dance techniques with an emphasis on fluidity, musicality and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement.

Tap

Class incorporate different styles of tap such as theatrical "Broadway" style to the rhythmic and improvisational "Rhythm Tap," each with its unique characteristics and emphasis on sound and movement. Dancers work on rhythms and musicality, syncopated footwork, and complex patterns.

Jazz

Class incorporates elements of ballet, including leaps, jumps, and turns, as well as specific jazz techniques like isolations and contractions. Dancers work on different styles of jazz such as Broadway Jazz, Contemporary Jazz and Commercial Jazz.

Jazz Funk

Class consists of blending jazz dance and street dance while dancing to popularized music.

Jazz/Tap Combo

Class consists of 30-minutes of Jazz technique and 30-minutes of Tap technique. Classes work on footwork, transitions, jumps, kicks, rhythmic patterns and combinations.

Advanced Hip Hop

For dancers who have completed at least 2 years of Intermediate Hip Hop and must be at least 12 years old.

Intermediate Hip Hop

For dancers who have completed 2 years of Hip Hop 3 and are at least 9 years old.

Hip Hop 3

For dancers who have completed 2 years of Kids Hip Hop and must be at least 9 years old.

Hip Hop

Classes include style explorations such as popping, locking, breaking, freestyle and commercial dance. Classes also focus on choreography, musicality and understanding the foundation and culture of hip hop dance.

Creative Dance/Tap

Combines movement and artistic expression by developing motor skills, emotional/self expression, and locomotive skills. Class focuses on basic tap steps, rhythms, and musicality.

Creative Dance/Ballet

Combines movement and artistic expression by developing motor skills, emotional/self expression, and locomotive skills. Class focuses on basic ballet technique and the fundamental movements of ballet.

Creative Dance/Tumbling

Combines movement and artistic expression by developing motor skills, emotional/self expression, and locomotive skills. Class focuses on basic tumbling, body shapes, jumps, rolls, bridges and obstacle courses.
