These classes introduce dancing to our future stars by including instruction that includes stretching, dance games, use of props, theater games, songs. More importantly, our children are learning ballet fundamentals, beginner level tap steps, all integrated with a creative approach and lots of energy. As a result, our students are learning better balance and motor skills that promote a healthy movement, and coordination in their physical development.

South Carolina Dance Company Provides Exceptional Pointe Instruction by Professional Dance Instructors

ACRO

Acro is a unique class at SCDC that is a fusion of dance technique, tumbling, and acrobatic dance. There are four different levels offered, depending on a student’s existing skills (young beginner through advanced). Demonstrated skills include front and back walkovers, aerials, chin stands, back hand springs, and more. Acro classes are offered at respective levels to focus on these skills without the added component of dance.

Tot Hop

SCDC also offers a 30 minute Tot Hop class for ages 2 and 3.

ALL BOYS HIP HOP

South Carolina Dance Company offers a special hip hop class designed for boys of all ages. Skills practiced include basic movement as well as more advanced tricks. As hip hop dancing is such a broad genre, the teachers at SCDC have much freedom and room for personal interpretation, and often mix various styles freely, even combining them with other dance forms, such as jazz.

South Carolina Dance Company’s Hip Hop Classes – Broad Instruction That Is The Merging of Jazz, Tap, American, African, and Latino Dance Cultures. Hip Hop dancing has exploded onto the dance scene, and it is a favorite genre among our SC Dance Company students.

CONTEMPORARY

South Carolina Dance Company offers instruction in the contemporary style, an expressive style of dance that combines the technique of ballet, emotions of lyrical, and elements of modern and jazz.

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance is a style that incorporates ballet and jazz into a unique genre. Lyrical dancing uses movement to express emotions such as love, anger, joy, and sadness. Lyrical dance moves range from graceful, fluid, free-flowing moments to powerful leaps and quick turns that can be explosive depending on the music being used. In addition, the choreography of lyrical dancing is designed to accompany songs with lyrics, and dance movements portray the story that the lyrics are telling. As a result there are many forms of Lyrical dancing.

TAP

Award winning Tap instruction offered by South Carolina Dance Company with some of the most experienced instructors in the Lexington, SC and Greater Columbia, SC area. Owner and Artistic Director, Danyele Gardner, has 30 years of experience in Classical Tap. Classes focus on proper technique, warm-up drills, and learning Tap sequences or steps through fun, aerobic combination exercises.

JAZZ

South Carolina Dance Company’s Jazz Classes Are a Foundation for Great Dance Technique. Jazz dancing is a form of dance that highlights a dancer’s individual style and originality. Each jazz dancer has a unique interpretation of movement and executes dance moves and steps in their own way. Jazz dancing is known to be energetic, fun and creative, consisting of unique moves, difficult footwork, big jumps, controlled leaps, and quick turns. At South Carolina Dance Company, we make our Jazz classes explode with energy.

Pointe

Pointe is a vital part of ballet technique, and it is made possible by specific shoes that are reinforced called pointe shoes. Pointe shoes enable dancers to dance on the tips of their toes for extended durations of time. In addition, It takes tremendous strength to be a good Pointe dancer. A dancer must work very hard to develop their feet, ankles, knees, legs, and abdomen to endure the body’s weight during the controlled and precise dance movements. Excellent Pointe technique makes a ballet dancers appear weightless on the floor, allowing for free flowing, effortless dance positions.

BALLET

Ballet is one of the oldest and most famous styles of dance that can be traced back to the 15th century. The word “ballet” originates from the latin word “Ballare” which literally means “to dance.” Ballet dancing is most notable for its techniques, such as pointe work and turn-out of the legs. Ballet is a graceful, flowing dance style, and it is also a poised style of dance that incorporates the foundational techniques for many other dance forms. Ballet dance focuses on Pointe work which utilizes flowing and precise acrobatic movements.
