Integrating tumbling and acro elements into your dance repertoire will make your dancing more dynamic! Students are placed in classes based on technical ability.

Integrating tumbling and acro elements into your dance repertoire will make your dancing more dynamic! Students are placed in classes based on technical ability.
Acro
The nationally acclaimed Acrobatic Arts curriculum is used in Acro classes as well as our PreSchool Ballet/Tap/Acro and Mini Jazz/Hip Hop/Acro classes. In these lessons, dancers will gain strength and flexibility by progressing from basic tumbling skills to walkovers, aerials, various handstands, and other acro-dance tricks. Integrating tumbling and acro elements into your dance repertoire will make your dancing more dynamic! Students are placed in classes based on technical ability. Requirements for Acro II: back bend, bridge recover, kick over, and handstand bridge. All must be clean and consistent without the help of a spot or mat stacks. Should also have a solid headstand, handstand, and a good awareness of stacking. Requirements for Acro III: front walkover, back walkover, aerial (or incredibly close). Should also have a solid headstand, handstand, chest stand, forearm stand, and a solid awareness of stacking.

Jazz
These classes involve technical instruction which combines traditional Broadway Jazz with the ever-changing styles of today. Jazz today is utilized everywhere in the musical theatre, commercial, concert and entertainment industries. Each class consists of a full body warm up, isolations, traveling exercises across the floor, turns and upbeat combinations. Students are placed in classes based on age and technical ability. Mini Jazz/Hip Hop/Acro is for dancers ages 5-7. We also have beginning level classes for those dancers who older and getting involved in dance for the first time. Jazz I is for dancers ages 8 and up, and Adult/Teen Jazz/Hip Hop is for dancers ages 13 and up. Jazz II, Jazz III, Jazz IV, Intermediate Jazz, and Advanced Jazz are by teacher recommendation.
Pointe
Pointe is a beautiful form of classical ballet to which most female ballet dancers aspire. In these classes, students will take their ballet training to the next level, learning how to incorporate their knowledge of proper technique into their pointe work. These classes may only be taken with recommendation from an Angela Floyd Schools’ instructor.

Our Ballet Technique class is a great opportunity for extra training for our Intermediate Ballet and Pointe dancers. This class does not participate in the Spring Concert.

While dancers will spend time working on the technical and physical aspects of ballet, they will also learn to connect with the steps and music to bring artistry to their movement. Students are placed in classes according to age, dance experience, and technique level. For those dancers who are older but just starting their dance journey, we have beginning level classes to introduce them to the world of ballet.

Preschool Hip Hop/Acro
This fun filled class of instruction for 2-4 year olds is 30 minutes of hip hop steps and vocabulary and 30 minutes of Acrobatic Arts acro skills. Age appropriate games are sometimes incorporated to aid in the learning of body positions and technique. Short dance combinations and technique across the floor are also taught.
Preschool Ballet/Tap
This fun-filled class of ballet and tap instruction is for 2-4 year olds. The curriculum begins with 30 minutes of ballet, during which dancers learn basic positions, steps, and vocabulary using concepts and terminology that are familiar to them, even if they’ve never danced before. During the second half of the class, the dancers focus on tap, doing a warm-up, technique across the floor, and upbeat combinations.

Petite Age Division Clinic
Clinics for the 2026-2027 Season for the petite age division, ages 5-8 as of Jan. 1, 2027. These clinics will serve as the audition for dancers in this division, where they will be placed based on their performance and work ethic during the clinic. Dancers do not need to attend the main audition day.

SPECIAL NEEDS DANCE CLASS
Arts for the Amazing offers students in Knoxville and surrounding areas of all abilities the chance to dance and achieve goals beyond what they believe is possible. In this supportive, positive environment, students with disabilities are paired with typically developing peers to maximize participation, while encouraging social interactions and relationship-building. This class develops basic dance skills, explores movement concepts, musicality, improvisation, and basic technique in various dance disciplines. Students will learn developmentally-appropriate choreography and explore artistic expression while working towards functional goals. This class is a great way to develop confidence, coordination, motor skills, teamwork, and make new friends! Informal performances will be held throughout the year at the end of the normal class time to celebrate the dancers’ progress and achievements.
