About Midland Festival Ballet

Midland Festival Ballet, located in Midland, Texas, has been a cornerstone of the community's artistic landscape since its founding in 1993. This non-profit organization, established by Founding Director Judy Coleman, is dedicated to "Bringing the Beauty of Ballet to the Basin" through comprehensive education, engaging performances, and extensive community outreach. The School of Midland Festival Ballet provides instruction to over 150 students annually, fostering discipline, tenacity, and teamwork in dancers from 3 years old through adulthood. The curriculum, influenced by Vaganova and Bournonville styles, offers classes for various age and grade levels, including Tiny Dancers, Pre-Ballet, Ballet 1, and Ballet 2, with further placement for older students. Midland Festival Ballet boasts a distinguished faculty, including Ballet Instructor Susan Clark, whose professional experience includes being a Principal dancer with the Milwaukee Ballet and Atlanta Ballet. Autumn Adair, a former Midland Festival Ballet trainee, and Kelli Garrett, a Ballet and Beginning Pointe Instructor, also contribute their professional backgrounds. Cara Radke teaches multiple disciplines, and Jadyn Ruth, with a BFA in Modern Dance, instructs Ballet and brings expertise in contemporary and modern works. The studio's programs emphasize classical Ballet, alongside Contemporary and Modern dance. The performance season traditionally features the beloved holiday classic, The Nutcracker, and a mixed repertoire Spring Gala showcasing classical excerpts and original choreography. Past productions include full-length ballets like Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, often with live orchestral accompaniment. The organization also offers company workshops, including sessions with instructor Katia Garza, and participates in regional events like the RDA Adjudication and the Regional Dance America/Southwest Festival. Beyond performances, Midland Festival Ballet plays a vital role in arts education through outreach programming for local schools and community centers.
