School Of Classical Ballet and Dance

For Jazz A, B, C, students should wear a black leotard, pink ballet tights, and black jazz shoes. Dance skirts or solid black jazz shorts or pants may be worn. Hair should be pulled back neatly off the face. No street clothes such as sweatshirts, sweatpants, or t-shirts are allowed.

For Level 6 classes and rehearsals, students may wear any colored leotard. Light pink or black tights are permitted, and tights may be rolled up to the calf. Pink tights must be worn underneath the leotard. Light pink ballet shoes and pointe shoes are required, and pointe shoes must have ribbons. Proper ballet warm-up accessories such as leg warmers, warm-up shorts, and ballet sweaters may be worn for barre. Ballet skirts may be worn for the entire class. Hair should be worn neatly in a classic ballet bun, or may be worn fully up in a clip provided hair is fully tucked in and secured.

For Level 5/6 classes, students should wear a black leotard. Light pink tights are required for classes and must be worn underneath the leotard; tights may be rolled up to the calf. Light pink ballet shoes and pointe shoes are required, and pointe shoes must have ribbons. For Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet levels, students should wear a light pink leotard without attached skirts, light pink ballet tights (footed, no print), light pink ballet shoes, and black tap shoes. Dance skirts may be worn for tap only. Hair should be worn neatly off the face.

Standard ballet class, with barre and center work. Dress code is flexible.

For the student who is serious in his/her training and has either chosen dance as a primary activity or has aspirations of becoming a professional dancer. To be considered advanced, students must have achieved strong foundations of technique and be experienced in pointe work (female). Level 5 & 6 is three days a week. All classes listed under this level are required, and students are always welcome to enroll in an intermediate level ballet class as an extra class. Students are also required to attend an Open Division jazz or tap class to enhance their classical ballet training and movement quality.

This level is for the student who has chosen dance as a primary activity and is serious in his/her training. All ballet classes at this level are required. Strength cannot be built without consistent attendance. Our female students will be placed on pointe after faculty evaluation- proper development of muscles and technique is essential. Students are also required to attend an Open Division Jazz or Tap class to enhance their classical ballet training and movement quality.

With over an hour devoted to ballet technique each class, strength is built and knowledge of the art is expanded. Tap and Jazz classes can be added from the Open Division to enhance the student’s curriculum. Pre-pointe exercises build ankle technique & strength, laying a strong foundation for pointe work. While students may still enroll in just one day a week, if dancers aspire to join SCBD Youth Company one day, we encourage them to enroll in ballet at least 2 days/week as they become more serious in their training.

Technique becomes the emphasis in this level while still encouraging the joy of movement. Jazz is added to tap and ballet to promote contemporary expression.

Ballet steps and terminology in this level are expanded to include more technique. Combinations of steps are practiced for coordination and concentration. Tap allows the child to experience a different form of dance and rhythm.

Large motor skills are more developed at this age allowing for additional ballet & tap steps and terminology to be introduced and practiced.

This class is designed to encourage a child’s creative expression through movement to music, while learning some of the first ballet steps and French terminology

Tap and jazz classes teach a student new movements and style, expanding their training and also bringing a lot of fun! Focusing on building strong foundations of technique in all our classes, we aspire to teach our students grace, poise, and strength.
