About Art Of Dance Salado

Art Of Dance Salado, nestled in the heart of Salado, Texas, offers a vibrant spectrum of dance education for ages 3 and up, fostering creativity, technical proficiency, and a love for movement. Under the dedicated guidance of owner and director Heather Manuka, a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience and a certified Ballet instructor, the studio provides comprehensive instruction. Heather's extensive background includes training from renowned institutions and choreographers, and experience judging major dance competitions. The studio's diverse curriculum spans Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, Modern, and Musical Theater. Complementing the core offerings, professional ballet dancer and choreographer Clara Harper leads the Ballet program, bringing expertise from the Louisville Ballet School. Assistant Teacher Kayla Moss contributes her wealth of experience in Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz, and her specialty, Broadway Tap. Kristen Poage, a certified fitness instructor and studio owner, enhances the studio's reach with Barre and dance fitness classes, emphasizing Barre and Pilates. Art Of Dance Salado champions a holistic approach, viewing dance as a powerful tool for physical wellness and emotional expression. Students explore how movement can enhance sensory awareness, cognition, memory, and strengthen neuronal connections, while also serving as a powerful outlet for stress relief. Tap I/II

In this class, student will focus on developing rhythm, timing, and clear, percussive sounds. Broadway and rhythm tap techniques will be used to create storytelling, having fun, making music with the feet, and creative, choreography. A special emphasis will be placed on the history of tap dancing, different styles, and Acapela tap.

Ballet I/II

In this class, students will focus mainly on Vaganova Ballet techniques. Each class will consist of proper body positions and head alignment, barre exercises, across-the-floor combinations, center floor work, and storytelling choreography. A special emphasis will be placed on learning about classical composers, the history of ballet and different styles including contemporary ballet.

Hip Hop

In this class students will focus a combination of popping, locking, street and break dance styles, along with current “pop” dance trends that make this a high energy class. Students will also work on upper and lower body strength in warm up to assist dancers to become more proficient and powerful in their movements.

Dance Team Tech/Prep Private Lessons and Classes

Students will focus on developing skills and tricks for middle and high school dance team work, along with showmanship.

Lyrical/Contemporary I/II/III

Students will focus on learning the difference between contemporary and lyrical techniques. Lyrical techniques place a stronger emphasis on ballet while telling a story based on lyrics of music. Contemporary movement places a stronger emphasis on Modern and pedestrian movement along with improvisational techniques. BOTH genres center around creating and telling a story through deep emotion and expression.

Jazz I/II/III

In this class, students will focus on proper Jazz technique and movement, with an emphasis on distinct “styles” of Jazz. The class will consist of a proper warm up, across-the-floor combinations, center floor work, increasing flexibility, and stylized choreography. A special emphasis will be placed on the history of Jazz dance and storytelling through Jazz movement for stage and film. Ballet/Lyrical is strongly recommended as it builds on the technical foundations of Ballet.

Ballet I/II/III

In this class, students will focus mainly on Vaganova Ballet techniques. Each class will consist of proper body positions and head alignment, barre exercises, across-the-floor combinations, center floor work, and storytelling choreography.

Musical Theater

In this class, students will work on basic jazz and performance techniques specifically for musical theater in stage and video. Students will also practice auditioning, interviewing, and taking headshots throughout the dance year.

Hip Hop Jr.

In this class students will focus on a combination of popping, locking, street and break dance styles, along with current “pop” dance trends that make this a high energy class. Students will also work on upper and lower body strength in warm up to assist dancers to become more proficient and powerful in their movements.

Hip Hop & Pop

In this class, students will have fun ‘gettin down’ to hip hop and pop music beats! A combination of popping, locking, street, and break dance styles, will complement current “pop” dance trends to make this a high energy class. Students will also work on upper and lower body strength in warm up to assist dancers to become more proficient and powerful in their movements.

Dance Combo I/II

In this class, students will focus on a combination of Ballet, Jazz and Tap. Ballet section is based on a combination of RAD and introductory Vaganova techniques. Students will also be introduced to proper Jazz technique and movement, increasing flexibility, and exploring ‘stylized’ storytelling such as Broadway and Pop. In Tap, students will work on developing rhythm, timing, and clear, percussive sounds. Broadway and rhythm tap techniques will be used to create storytelling, and making music with the feet!

Dance Discovery

In this class, students are introduced to the structure of ballet concepts using the R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance London) program, and an introduction to tap through percussive rhythms and skills. Some pre-jazz movements will be included throughout the dance year. Attention is given to creative expression through a more structured environment and specific choreography.

Dance Discovery Petite

In this class, students are introduced to the structure of ballet concepts using the R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance London) program, and an introduction to tap through percussive rhythms and skills. Attention is given to creative expression through a more structured environment and specific choreography.

Creative Movement

In this class, students explore movement using music to encourage the development of physical skills, while channeling energy in a healthy way that nurtures creativity. Introductory ballet concepts from the R.A.D. program (Royal Academy of Dance London) are used loosely through storytelling with the body, as well as percussion through rhythmic awareness.
