About Victoria Ballet Theatre

Victoria Ballet Theatre (VBT), located in Victoria, Texas, has been a vibrant cornerstone of the local arts community since its founding in 1984. Dedicated to advancing the art of dance, VBT offers rigorous training and high-quality performance experiences for dancers of all ages and skill levels. The theatre fosters a high level of artistic training under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Brenda Serrata Tally, an accomplished professional with an MFA in Dance Performance and a BFA in Modern Dance, and Assistant Director Kelli Klein Tamm, who brings a BFA in Dance and extensive professional experience. VBT's distinguished faculty includes instructors like Phoebe Keith, certified in Acrobatic Arts Module 1 and Progressing Ballet Technique, and Angelica Vela, holding a BFA in Modern Dance. The studio offers a comprehensive curriculum encompassing Ballet, Modern Dance, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, and Acrobatics. VBT is particularly committed to developing pre-professional dancers through its competitive company, which comprises over forty dancers aged ten and up. These talented individuals are selected through competitive auditions and have a proven track record of success, progressing to prestigious summer intensives and college dance programs. Beyond its training, VBT plays a significant role in community enrichment. The annual season features a dynamic blend of classical and contemporary ballet works, alongside new pieces from local and international choreographers. Demonstrating a commitment to equitable access, VBT's outreach program, DEMI (Dance Education and Movement Initiative), founded in 2001, ensures underserved youth in Victoria County and surrounding areas benefit from dance education through collaborations with local school districts and youth organizations. Celebrating 40 years of dance, Victoria Ballet Theatre continues to nurture artistic growth, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts.

Anatomy of a Dance

A detailed exploration into the structure and components of a dance, likely aimed at educational purposes for educators.

Dance Education & Movement Initiative (DEMI)

At Victoria Ballet Theatre, we believe every child deserves the chance to experience the joy and power of dance. Through our Dance Education and Movement Initiative (DEMI), we open doors to the arts for children who might otherwise never have the opportunity. Partnering with Victoria Independent School District (VISD), Mid-Coast Family Counseling Services, and the Boys & Girls Club of Victoria, DEMI brings the beauty of movement into the lives of young people, fostering confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging. For many, these classes are more than just lessons—they are moments of inspiration, a safe space to dream, and a path to discovering their own potential. Some children even find a lifelong passion, earning scholarships to continue their training and join the Victoria Ballet Theatre family. With DEMI, dance becomes more than an art form—it becomes a bridge to hope, growth, and possibility.

DEMI

In 2001 Victoria Ballet Theatre started the Dance Education and Movement Initiative (DEMI), which provides equitable access to dance instruction and live dance performances to youth from underserved communities in Victoria County and surrounding areas. Victoria Ballet Theatre collaborates with the Victoria Independent School District (VISD), Mid-Coast Family Counseling Services and the Boys & Girls Club of Victoria to provide dance classes, performance opportunities and free admission to live dance performances. By choosing these three organizations as collaborators, Victoria Ballet Theatre can provide arts education to the most underserved youth in our community. In addition, students who are identified by their talent and passion for the art of dance may be awarded scholarships to further their training in a more formal setting. Victoria Ballet Theatre is the only non-profit dance organization in our area working with these organizations to provide access to the art of dance.
