WBC Split Club is a favorite tradition at our studio. We hope you'll join us in creating and maintaining good stretching habits. Stretching regularly will help dancers improve and maintain their flexibility and strength.

Nov 3 to Dec 6
Creative Movement

Creative Movement is done at the end of our young children’s classes. Stemming from modern dance, the elements of movement, creativity and confidence are learned through guided exercises. The teacher guides the class through a series of exercises, which allow dancers to choose their own steps, encouraging them to try new ways of moving and feeling the movement.

Jazz

We recommend black soft, split-soled jazz shoes. The ones sold at Walmart, etc., besides being more expensive, are stiff so when the dancers point their toes, the shoes do not point with them. This is frustrating to the dancer and also does not look good.

Tap

For young dancers, there is not a lot of difference in tap shoes. We have some in stock at our retail store at prices similar to the Large stores.

Ballet

Classical ballet training demands correct body alignment and placement, from the earliest stages. The only way an instructor can see this alignment is with the student attired in form-fitting clothing, including tights and leotard (or close-fitting t-shirt for boys). The hair is worn up and off the face and neck, not only so the steps can be executed properly (i.e. head can move freely without hair flying in the face), but also so the instructor can see alignment of the head and neck, which is also important.

Dance Expression

Our Dance Expression classes have students as young as 2.5 years of age. Because every child develops at their own pace, we evaluate each child independently to decide if they are ready. When he/she is ready, your child can participate in a well-rounded, conceptual dance class consisting of pre-ballet, tap, jazz, and creative movement.

Pre-pointe/Pointe class

If the student is enrolled in a Pre-pointe/Pointe class, students will participate in the class without pointe shoes. By doing the conditioning and barre exercises, students will work toward building the strength and technique necessary to begin pointe work.

Ballet Intro

For 7 and older, we really begin the concentrated study of ballet, focusing on correct technique and artistry. During our combination classes, we do teach pre-ballet and some technique.

Pre-ballet, tap, jazz, and creative movement

Each class focuses on the basic elements of dance and movement as well as coordination skills, self-expression, and creativity. Throughout the year, students will focus on correct body alignment and poise, develop flexibility and strength, learn basic ballet movements and positions, engage in imaginative movement, and develop rhythm and coordination. In a fun, motivating atmosphere, children will gain a love of dance as well as build a strong dance foundation.

Parent Shows & More

Parent Shows or Class Demonstrations are held during each winter. This is when parents and friends come to class and see what we’ve been working on. An abbreviated version of class is performed which includes a Christmas dance and refreshments are served.

Spring Concert

All WBC students are invited to perform in our Spring Concert in June, at the Covey Center Theater. Every class performs in at least two dances but only buys one costume. The Concert is performed two nights--three shows. The Concerts are especially fun because we perform original story ballets, which include all styles of dance.

Performing Companies

Students in Youth 2 and higher are given the opportunity to participate in WBC’s Performing Companies. Students in our most advanced levels will be placed as a member of Wasatch Dance Project, our newest pre-professional company. Acceptance into the companies is by audition only. Companies rehearse once a week and then perform at various venues throughout the area.

Youth Program

Students ages 7 and up are eligible for our Youth and Pre-Professional Programs. Dancers interested in these classes will be evaluated based on a placement class (designated by our staff). The instructor will carefully evaluate the student's level of ability, sometimes this process takes more than one class to evaluate.

Children's Program

Students ages 2-8 who will be participating in our Children’s Program will attend class based upon their age. After initial placement, adjustments to level can be made as necessary.

Spring Concerts

All Wasatch Ballet students are invited to participate in our yearly Spring Concerts. Each is an original story ballet (with contemporary, jazz, and tap) written by our director, Allison T. Wolsey, and faculty. Performances are held at the beautiful UVU Ragan Theater. Our annual productions give students the opportunity to learn all aspects of ballet, including acting and mime. Costumes and choreography are both professional and appropriate. Every class performs at least two dances and helps to develop the story line through acting and mime. CONTEMPORARY & MODERN CLASSES

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. The term “contemporary” is somewhat misleading: it describes a genre that developed during the mid-20th century and is still very popular today. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.

JAZZ CLASSES

In our jazz classes, students will enjoy learning a variety of jazz styles including hip hop, broadway, contemporary, lyrical, and funk. Using current popular music, classes will concentrate on correct placement and jazz technique and develop strength, flexibility, and coordination. While being innovative and fun, the music and movement used continues to be tasteful and appropriate for our young dancers.

BALLET CLASSES

Our Professional Track classes challenge dancers with increasingly complex technique and extended pointe work. Students learn classical variations from renowned ballets, while refining their artistry and musicality alongside technical strength. With a focus on both expression and precision, dancers are guided to grow into mature, versatile performers. To support continued progress, students are required to attend three or more classes per week.

Professional Track Program

Our Pre-Professional Program is designed to elevate dancers to their highest potential. With a strong focus on refining technique, building strength, and enhancing performance skills, this program also nurtures personal growth, self-esteem, and artistic expression. Dancers are guided with discipline, creativity, and encouragement in every class—following the esteemed American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum. The result? Confident, well-rounded artists who have gone on to thrive in professional companies and prestigious college dance programs.

Dancers perform exercises at the barre and in the center which develop balance, flexibility, and strength. By the end of the year, all of the positions of the feet and arms will be learned and barre and center combinations will increase in complexity. Students must attend class two times a week to facilitate development. In Basics 2, 3, and 4 Ballet, exercises continue to increase in length to train the dancers' minds as well as their bodies. By doing the conditioning and barre exercises, students will work toward building the strength and technique necessary to begin pointe work. Ballet, Contemporary, Acro, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Tumbling, Children's Combo, and more!

Offering Dance Classes in Ballet, Contemporary, Acro, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Tumbling, Children's Combo, and more! The teachers are exceptional--they are mindful of each student, but provide top-notch dancing without a competitive, high stress environment. The environment at the studio motivate the girls to want to be better at dance because they love to dance. They are very professional and have a structure and discipline for the girls, even the younger ones, to follow, which I really admire. The girls love their teachers and always come out smiling. The teachers took the time to assess my girls to figure out which class was the best fit. Their motto is evey student counts and they really live by it. My girls love Wasatch Ballet. The spring performance is amazing. Every student gets to perform in at least 2 dances. And, we love Allee! Wasatch Ballet helped [my daughter] find her passion for ballet and helped her develop her talents. Their confidence in her has inspired her, and helped her believe in herself, too. What a wonderful match we made 15 years ago when our little three-year-old girl wanted a "ballerina birthday" and we came to WBC!
