Ballet West Academy, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the official school of Ballet West, dedicated to nurturing accomplished artists and well-rounded individuals of all ages through professional and recreational training. The academy offers a comprehensive dance education with a strong emphasis on classical ballet, complemented by vibrant instruction in contemporary, modern, Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop. Ballet West Academy’s Professional Training Division
The PTD program is comprised of three female and two male levels and is designed to carry students through their high school years. This elite and talented group of young dancers experience an expanded schedule of technique classes, rehearsals, and optional coaching in addition to regular Academy classes.
Student Division (Levels 1-8)
Student Division (Levels 1-8) students refine their work and acquire ballet vocabulary.
Utah County - Levels 1-8
Student Division classes include ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, conditioning, repertoire, and performance opportunities. Supplemental classes available in commercial dance.
Park City - Levels 1-8
Student Division classes include ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, conditioning, repertoire, and performance opportunities.
Trolley Corners - Levels 1-4
Student Division classes include ballet, pointe, men’s technique, contemporary, repertoire, and conditioning.
Ballet Centre - Levels 5-8

Student Division Levels 1 through 8
Levels 1 through 8 are designed for students ages 9 and above. Ballet West Academy promotes a healthy and nurturing approach. Classes follow a carefully constructed, comprehensive curriculum, designed to provide the skills necessary to pursue a career in dance. Students perform in the Ballet West Academy Winter, Spring, and Contemporary Showcases.

Beginning & Elementary Divisions are for students ages 3 to 8. Classes are offered by age and are carefully developed in accordance with a child’s physical and cognitive abilities. Children are placed in a safe and nurturing environment and participate in the Ballet West Academy Productions.

Summer Intensive Video Auditions
Video submissions will be accepted from January 4-March 31, 2026. If your student is unable to attend an in-person audition for our 2026 Summer Intensives, you may submit an audition video. Summer Intensives
Ballet West Academy will be traveling to a city near you, to audition dancers for acceptance and potential merit-based scholarship to our 2026 Summer Intensives. Video submissions will be accepted from January 4-March 31, 2026. If your student is unable to attend an in-person audition for our 2026 Summer Intensives, you may submit an audition video. All audition videos should be no longer than 20 minutes in length.
Affiliate Program
On-site Visit and First Year Membership “Seminar and Consultation” Level Attendance Required. Site visit of 2 days: 6 Classes - Days 1 and 2. 3 Observation classes - in which BW observes faculty teaching and provides follow up feedback focused on instructors/curriculum/teaching methods. 3 Master classes in which BW teaches a class and provides feedback on students. 2 group meetings - Day 2. 1 meeting with faculty, incorporating feedback and answering questions. 1 meeting with students and faculty - addressing areas of success and areas for improvement. Term: One year following Site visit. Additional years can be extended based on staff review. Pricing dependent on whether staff visit is required.
In-Person Seminar and Consultation
Overview of the cognitive, emotional and physical development of children in relation to curriculum design. Afternoon Session: Guest lecture with Ballet West Faculty and Intermountain Health Physical and Mental Wellbeing. First Look Lecture and performance of Ballet West’s Broadway and Beyond performance. Overview of four key learning styles in relation to lesson plans. Ballet West academy class observation and workshop of material.
Virtual Seminar and Consultation
8 hours of seminar time. Participants will gain tools to design or refine their own curriculum and syllabi. 2 hours of consultation time with Ballet West Curriculum specialist. Participants share their curriculum, to receive feedback and problem solve specific challenges within their studio. The 2 hours of consulting time is available in the 6 weeks following course completion.

The Ballet West Academy curriculum utilizes current research in the fields of science and education to create age appropriate instruction at each level. The Ballet West Curriculum Design Seminar empowers school directors and their faculty with tools to develop a custom tailored curriculum to meet the needs of their individual studio and incorporate research in best practices to nurture dancers and elevate training for all ages.
Elementary C Ballet
Elementary C is the introduction to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique building to advanced beginner skills. The focus during these formative years of training is on traditional classical ballet techniques as defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Students improve their understanding of proper ballet terminology and increase their awareness of anatomy, posture, and correct alignment. We begin to emphasize musicality, and further develop strength, coordination, and flexibility. Dancers should expect to spend about 2 years in the Elementary C levels. Students may be required to repeat this level and summer classes are strongly encouraged to stay on track for fall placement.
Elementary A Ballet
Elementary A is the bridge between a creative format and a more formal structure to ballet class. It is at this level that we begin the systematic approach to classical ballet training defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Basic ballet terminology and music awareness are introduced. Students continue to explore creative expression, refine motor skills, and gain strength and coordination, and will be introduced to nutritional “food for fuel” concepts. Children are encouraged to practice self-discipline, resulting in respect and safety for themselves and others.
Level 1 Contemporary
Upon placement in Level 1, students begin to experience the satisfaction of a more comprehensive knowledge of the Ballet West Academy syllabus, and the ability to execute its principles. The emphasis in this level is the development of the “whole child”. Along with continued progress in their physical development, students enjoy a more detailed curriculum.
Elementary C (Ages 8 and Up) Ballet Technique/Repertoire
Elementary C is the introduction to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique building to advanced beginner skills. The focus during these formative years of training is on traditional classical ballet techniques as defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Men's Class - 10-14 Year Old
Our Men’s Class is designed for male-identifying dancers to be immersed in men’s classical ballet technique and repertoire. Students will work weekly with former Ballet West Principal Dancer, Rex Tilton, to build the strength and agility necessary for the male ballet dancer. The second hour of class will be focused on repertoire, applying technical elements to choreography from some of the world’s most recognized ballets. Train with other male dancers in this special class created for students ages 10-14.
Level 1 Rep
Upon completing the essential requirements of training and successfully demonstrating appropriate skill level and maturity, students are ready for a more intense and challenging course of study. Female students at this level must show a structural capacity for pointe work and all students must possess ample strength and stamina.

We believe a child’s (and parent’s) early experiences with dance should make a positive and lasting impression. Elementary B defines the formal structured approach to classical ballet training. The student identifies and demonstrates knowledge of the body as an instrument by refining movement skills and coordination. Students gain a basic understanding of French ballet vocabulary, a simple anatomical awareness as it applies to ballet, and nutritional (“food for fuel”) concepts. Structured body conditioning and flexibility exercises are introduced as well as an expanded knowledge of syllabus exercises. Students continue to explore musical awareness and learn simple elements of creative dance. Summer classes are encouraged.

Beginning C (Age 5-6)
Beginning C is an exciting introduction to classical ballet techniques. Boys and girls gain awareness of ballet basics through a creative process that allows each student to experience their passion for dance. Activities vary weekly and focus on developing fundamental motor skills, strength, rhythm, and coordination. In a creative setting, children learn self-expression, self-discipline, and respect for others.
Level 2
Level 2 students continue to experience the satisfaction of a more comprehensive knowledge of the Ballet West Academy syllabus and the ability to execute its principles.
Beginning C (Age 5-6)
Beginning Level C classes are interactive, where children learn the foundation of dance and discover the joy of movement. We believe a child’s (and parent’s) early experiences with dance should make a positive and lasting impression. Activities vary weekly and focus on developing fundamental motor skills, strength, rhythm, and coordination. In a creative setting, children learn self-expression, self-discipline, and respect for others. Ballet/Tap Combo class is also offered. Students must be potty-independent with no exceptions.
Elementary A (Ages 6-7) Ballet

Beginning A (Age 3-4)
Beginning A is an interactive class where children learn the foundation of dance and discover the joy of movement, for students age 3-4. We believe a child’s (and parent’s) first experience with dance should make a positive and lasting impression. Students have fun in a safe, creative, and nurturing environment. Students must be bathroom-independent with no exceptions.
Musical Theatre - 7-12 Year Old
The Park City campus is excited to introduce Musical Theatre classes to its students! Classes are an introduction to the Musical Theatre craft, designed to support the participant’s creative expression, and to help them build confidence for the stage! Classes are offered in two sections and are by age. Ages 7 to 12 and ages 13 to 18. All students enrolled in classes will perform in the Spring Performance. They will also take part in an in studio performance in the first semester.

It is at this level that we begin the systematic approach to classical ballet training defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Basic ballet terminology and music awareness are introduced. Students continue to explore creative expression, refine motor skills, and gain strength and coordination. Children are encouraged to practice self-discipline, resulting in respect and safety for themselves and others.
Tap/Jazz - 5-7 Year Old
Tap is an integral part of an expanded dance curriculum. Tap is beneficial in many ways, including increasing cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility and coordination. Tap builds strength in the legs and feet as well as increasing flexibility in the hips, knees and ankles. Tap also enhances cognitive abilities. To become proficient, dancers must develop muscle memory and mental acuity. Tap develops a great sense of rhythm and timing. Best of all… tap is just plain fun!

Upon placement in Level 1, students begin to experience the satisfaction of a more comprehensive knowledge of the Ballet West Academy syllabus, and the ability to execute its principles. The emphasis in this level is the development of the “whole child”. Along with continued progress in their physical development, students enjoy a more detailed curriculum.

Beginning A (Age 3-4)
Beginning A is an interactive class where children learn the foundation of dance and discover the joy of movement for students age 3-4 in Salt Lake City. We believe a child’s (and parent’s) first experience with dance should make a positive and lasting impression. Students have fun in a safe, creative, and nurturing environment. Students must be bathroom-independent with no exceptions.
Level 1
Upon placement in Level 1, students begin to experience the satisfaction of a more comprehensive knowledge of the Ballet West Academy syllabus and the ability to execute its principles. The emphasis in this level is the development of the “whole child.” Along with continued progress in their physical development, students enjoy a more detailed curriculum.
Beginning A Ballet/Tap Combo
Beginning Level A classes are interactive, where children learn the foundation of dance and discover the joy of movement. We believe a child’s (and parent’s) early experiences with dance should make a positive and lasting impression. Activities vary weekly and focus on developing fundamental motor skills, strength, rhythm, and coordination. In a creative setting, children learn self-expression, self-discipline, and respect for others.
Beginning B Ballet/Tap Combo
Beginning Level B classes are interactive, where children learn the foundation of dance and discover the joy of movement. We believe a child’s (and parent’s) early experiences with dance should make a positive and lasting impression. Activities vary weekly and focus on developing fundamental motor skills, strength, rhythm, and coordination. In a creative setting, children learn self-expression, self-discipline, and respect for others.
Elementary C (Ages 8 and Up) Ballet Technique/Conditioning
Elementary C is the introduction to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique building to advanced beginner skills. The focus during these formative years of training is on traditional classical ballet techniques as defined in the Ballet West Academy syllabus. Students improve their understanding of proper ballet terminology and increase their awareness of anatomy, posture, and correct alignment. We begin to emphasize musicality, and further develop strength, coordination, and flexibility. Dancers should expect to spend about 2 years in the Elementary C levels. Students may be required to repeat this level and summer classes are strongly encouraged to stay on track for fall placement.
Level 1 Conditioning/Pre-Pointe
Upon completing the essential requirements of training and successfully demonstrating appropriate skill level and maturity, students are ready for a more intense and challenging course of study. Female students at this level must show a structural capacity for pointe work and all students must possess ample strength and stamina.

St. George Intensive
Classes will be held Monday-Saturday with the staff of Ballet West Academy Faculty, Ballet West Artistic Staff (featuring Artistic Director, Adam Sklute), Ballet West dancers and renowned guest teachers. Choreographic Workshop
Dancers ages 16-20 Acceptance by audition or special invitation artÉmotion Artistic Directors, Allison DeBona and Rex Tilton direct a “Company Experience” for pre-professional dancers June 15-July 17, 2026. Dancers will spend the first three weeks as students in the Ballet West Summer Intensive, and spend the final two weeks with artÉmotion. Participants take part in a world premiere performance in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 16 & 17, 2026 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. All dancers in the Choreographic Workshop will be considered by Ballet West Director, Adam Sklute, and Ballet West Academy Director, Evelyn Cisneros-Legate, to join Ballet West Academy as a Trainee or Professional Training Division dancer for the 2026-2027 season.

Curriculum Design Seminar
The Ballet West Curriculum Design Seminar empowers school directors and their faculty with tools to develop a custom tailored curriculum to meet the needs of their individual studio and incorporate research in best practices to nurture dancers and elevate training for all ages. The seminars prepare directors and faculty to create or refine their studio curriculum utilizing new tools and feedback.
Ballet West Academy Preview Day
Ballet West Academy's Preview Day is a unique opportunity for students to audition early in the season for Ballet West Academy Professional Training Division placement. The audition class will also offer placement for our 2026 Summer Intensives. This two-day event includes a pre-audition talk with esteemed Ballet West Academy Faculty, tours of our downtown Ballet Centre and Student Housing, observing current Professional Training Division classes, and two tickets to Ballet West's performance of Peter Pan. Ballet West Academy’s Preview Day is open to students ages 14-20.
Curriculum Design Seminar
The two-day, in-person seminar consists of eight hours of seminar instruction at the Ballet West Studios, with explanations of research and the direct applications within the studio. In addition, guest lectures from Ballet West Faculty and Intermountain Health Team will enhance the seminar. The in person seminar also includes a class observation and tickets to a Ballet West Performance.
Choreographic Workshop
Dancers will spend the first three weeks as students in the Ballet West Academy Summer Intensive and the final two weeks with artÉmotion. The final two weeks replicate a “company schedule” with a company class and a full-day of rehearsals with guest choreographers. Participants take part in a world premiere performance in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 17 & 18, 2025 at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.

The Ballet West Academy’s Ballet Centre Young Dancer Summer Intensive in Salt Lake City, Utah is a two-week program and will be held at the Trolley Corners campus. The Young Dancer Summer Intensive is specifically designed for dancers between the ages of 9 and 12. The program provides rigorous training while balancing the developmental needs of younger students. Dancers participate in daily ballet technique classes, as well as a variety of supplemental classes for girls and boys; including pre-pointe/pointe, boys technique, other dance styles, and seminar classes relating to topics such as nutrition and growth mindset. Classes will be taught by Ballet West Academy Faculty, Ballet West Dancers and guest artists. The program culminates with a presentation in the studios.
