Tutu School is a collection of boutique-style ballet schools that cater specifically to children 6 months to 8 years-old. Our mission is simple: We believe that exposing children at the earliest possible age to creativity, movement, and classical music will only serve them well in whatever they choose to do with their lives, that dancing like swans and Sugar Plum Fairies not only exercises little bodies but also nurtures big imaginations, and that twirling should be a fundamental part of any childhood.

Level A: 5-6 years old. Level B: 6-8 years old.

Tutu School asks students in its older divisions to wear leotards or fitted shirts with tights or leggings and ballet slippers. Please tuck in all drawstrings on slippers, and secure long hair away from the face as much as possible. No specific color or style of dancewear is required, and tutus and skirts are absolutely permitted – naturally!

Tutu School’s Ballet Birthday Parties are the perfect way to help your little swan or Sugar Plum Fairy celebrate their special day! Each and every party includes a brief ballet class with lots of movement games. Enjoy a performance of a special birthday story featuring the guest of honor. We’ll host a delicious cupcake picnic and provide delightful party favors. Take the stress out of party planning – simply show up and enjoy the magic!

In the Primary Ballet Prep division we develop pure, fundamental ballet technique that will eventually allow our students to graduate to a more disciplined study of the craft – when their growing bodies are ready. In the meantime, we’ll continue to practice our pliés with a healthy helping of magical fun, thank you.

Classes in our Exploring Ballet division strike a perfect balance between structure and creativity. In this division we begin carefully laying the earliest foundation of ballet technique, but we always compliment our class work with fun, imaginative activities that keep young dancers captivated, engaged, and utterly in love with ballet.

Our goal in our Tutu Toddlers division is to work with you to engage your little one and give them an early experience with ballet they’ll never forget. Because at Tutu School we believe that exposing children at a very early age to creativity, movement, and music can only lead to good things.

Ballet for babies? We’re so glad you asked. It’s never too early to expose little ones to movement and music, and Baby Ballet is a carefully curated curriculum for infants aged 6-18 months, with lots of opportunities to foster both caregiver bonding and age-appropriate development.

Primary Prep is designed for children aged 5 to 8 years old. This class focuses on developing more advanced ballet techniques, musicality, and performance skills in preparation for future dance studies.

Exploring Ballet is suitable for children aged 3 to 5 years old. This class builds upon the foundational ballet techniques, encouraging creativity, coordination, and a sense of rhythm through engaging activities.

Tutu Toddlers is for children aged 18 months to 3 years old, also with caregiver participation. This class fosters early motor skills and a love for dance through imaginative movement and music.

Baby Ballet is designed for children aged 6 to 18 months old and involves caregiver participation. This class introduces the foundational elements of ballet in a playful and supportive environment.

Our approach to working with these little ones has been very carefully thought out. We do start introducing more and more ballet technique each year that a child dances with us, but we always balance that against more creative, imaginative activities that keep them captivated and engaged.

Tutu School only teaches students up to eight years-old, specifically because eight is an appropriate age to start more serious training. Prior to that, a young dancer engaging in training at too young an age will develop bad habits that can take a very long time to unlearn.

Midway through our Exploring Ballet division, for example, children at Tutu School start learning basic barre exercises. Even then, though, they continue to also spend part of each class dancing like butterflies, learning ballet stories, and just being generally creative.

Caregiver participation is required in our Tutu Toddlers division. The role of the caregiver is to support their little dancer, as much as or as little as they need. Supporting your dancer may include physical support (hand holding), cognitive support (helping your dancer with decision-making such as finding a spot at the wall or selecting a prop), and/or emotional support (offering comfort and encouragement because trying new things takes courage and lots of practice).

Caregiver participation is required in our Baby Ballet division. The role of the caregiver is to support their little dancer, as much or as little as they need. Supporting your baby may include physical support (holding your baby in your arms or hand holding), cognitive support (helping your dancer practice decision-making by selecting props), and/or emotional support (offering comfort and encouragement because trying new things takes courage and lots of practice).
