Before the crazy starts, come enjoy an casual afternoon of fun and dancing. We’ll be starting the afternoon with a short Bachata lesson. This dance is great for beginners and still exciting for advanced dancers. Will there be a mixer mid-dance? Oh yeah. How could we not? No experience or partner necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and your dancing shoes!

Feeling twitchy stuck in your house? Tired of grey-skies and cold rain? Come into the warm with an evening of fun, laughter, and dancing. We’ll be starting the evening with a short East Coast Swing lesson. This dance is great for beginners and still exciting for advanced dancers. Will there be a mixer mid-dance? Maybe - we're working on it. So plan now to join fellow dancers, young, old, experienced, and shiny new for an afternoon of good food, nice people, great music, and incredible dancing.

First-Time Beginners

Eight in-person private lessons designed to prepare couples for their wedding dance. You will learn to lead or follow the dance that fits your song, dance extensively to your song, and plan your entrance and exit.

Always wanted to learn to dance but didn't know where to start? Try Salsa! This sizzling Latin dance is a fantastic way to get moving with style and confidence on the dance floor. It works beautifully to a large variety of music (not just Latin Salsa!) and is a great solo dance too. Missed last week? No problem! Each week we teach a 40-50 minute lesson, starting with the absolute basics in a fun, popular dance style. And then, finish off the hour with a little taste of another style that will be on the schedule the later in the season.

So you've danced around the walls a time or two and you're ready for more? Awesome. We'd love to have you! The dances taught on Monday nights tend to have a larger variety of figures, rhythms, and more complicated transitions than beginner line dances (taught on Tuesdays), so be prepared to battle wall-nesia and get your feet tangled on the path to LD success. But the result will be worth it, without doubt.

Take the plunge and learn more, more, more Waltz. This workshop is still not a “high dive,” not intended to be super challenging, but will give you some more coolness to play with.

We will be diving into what makes Waltz so elegant and romantic, and how to master all those rotations. Participants will learn and practice several moves, learn to use good Waltz technique in all of them, and get a short routine that can be used over and over again while social dancing.

This exercise class is specifically geared towards improving your balance while dancing. Of course, that also means improving your balance while standing and walking, which really can't be a bad thing. You will sweat; you may be sore; you will probably complain (we all do); but we keep coming back for more.

Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing. Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set.
