Classes

Nutcracker – Land of Sweets

Focusing on the Nutcracker’s second act, this week will take your dancer to the spectacular Land of Sweets! Overseen by the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy, the children will meet and be inspired by dancers from around the world as they join in this classic ballet celebration.

Carnival of the Animals

A perennial favorite in classical music for children, composer Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals will give dancers the chance to explore expression, musicality, and creativity. Dance, crafts, and movement games combine for a rollicking good time!

Angelina & Friends

A classic storybook and TV show character for budding ballet dancers, Angelina is a charming mouse who loves to dance. Along with Angelina and her friends, our dancers will learn about dedication and the power of a good attitude, all while having a lot of fun!

Celebrating the best of musical theater’s song and dance, this week will use showtunes and theater-inspired projects to introduce children to Broadway’s glittering tradition of inspiring stage performances.

Mythical Creatures

Emphasizing mythical creatures that appear in ballet, specifically the Firebird, this week will also include other favorite creatures such as unicorns and dragons. Through music, movement, and craft projects, each of these fabled animals will inspire the children to new heights of creativity and beautiful dancing!

The Greatest Show

Welcome to an old-fashioned circus – the greatest show on earth! With clowns, acrobats, animal parades and more, the children will enjoy incorporating lessons from a variety of circus performers to help them improve their own dance and performance skills.

Swan Lake

One of the most beloved works of classical ballet, this week will introduce children to the fairy tale story of beautiful swan maidens under a curse and the charming prince who attempts to rescue them. Separate performance fees are required to participate in productions with additional days/times for rehearsals.

The teen dance program is designed to be a bridge for students ages 12+ who have little to no prior dance experience. In teen dance classes, students learn vocabulary and technique and build stamina and confidence to progress into VBC’s academic levels smoothly.

Lyrical is designed to introduce homeschool students to a dance style that combines ballet, jazz, acrobatics, and modern dance.

Homeschool Musical Theater

Homeschool Musical Theater is designed to introduce homeschooled students to dance styles common in musical theater performance.

Beginning Ballet

Beginning Ballet is designed to introduce classical ballet to all ages. VBC groups dancers by age to allow students to learn at their own pace and skill level.

Pre-Ballet

Pre-Ballet is designed to introduce classical ballet to all ages. VBC groups dancers by age to allow students to learn at their own pace and skill level.

Preschool Dance

Preschool Dance is designed to introduce classical ballet to all ages. VBC groups dancers by age to allow students to learn at their own pace and skill level.

Dance for Athletes

The dance for athletes program is designed for athletes ages 9-14 looking to use dance as cross-training to improve their performance and technique. Exercises in the Tech/Flex class will be focused on developing alignment, balance, strength, and flexibility.

Boys Ballet

Designed for male ballet dancers in the Beginning Ballet II level and above, Boys Ballet focuses on technique specific to male dancers.

Adaptive Dance

VBC’s Adaptive Dance Program is for elementary through high school aged students who need additional support to participate in dance class. Our classes feature elements of Ballet, Modern, creative movement, rhythm, and a live musician. Movements and exercises are planned with a variety of ways to modify and adapt as needed. Our students have multiple opportunities to perform with their peers. Our goal is to make enjoying dance accessible to everyone!

Any student who wishes to be considered to perform Trepak in VBC’s Nutcracker must also take character class. However, please note that enrollment in character class does not guarantee that a dancer will be cast in Trepak.

Dancers progress to the Beginning Ballet level once they are familiar with the basic vocabulary, movements, and positions. More skills are introduced and combined with the introductory skills learned in Pre-Ballet.

Mommy & Me classes are for ages 2-4 yrs and are designed to introduce them to dance in a safe environment. While called Mommy & Me, any parent or guardian is more than welcome to participate in the class with their child.

Pas de Deux Classes

Pas de deux instruction is a critical component of our upper-level pre-professional dance training. The pas de deux, or “step for two,” is often the dramatic crescendo of a classical ballet. Students receive corrections from Artistic Director Dina Fadeyeva during weekly pas de deux classes.

Fantasy Ballet Camp

VBC’s Fantasy Ballet Camps are designed to capture the creative spirit of our younger dancers. The ballet-themed summer camps allow students ages 3-9 to explore movement in ballet and creativity with themed craft projects, dance games, mini classes, and exposure to the music of classical composers.
