Classes

Company Classes

The Dance Explosion Jazz Companies are made-up of OSPA students from the ages of 5-18 and is an invitation only class. Company classes are designed for students who are aspiring to train on the professional level. The program is designed for students who can handle a more intense dance environment. Company students travel all over the East Coast performing and competing for prestigious dance titles, trophies and special awards! They have the opportunity to prepare for a professional level by performing in front of audiences several times a year! Company students also have the opportunity to take classes from dance legends as well as new and up & coming choreographers.

Modern

A class that uses different dance techniques, Modern allows for more freedom of expression in the body movement. All Modern students must be enrolled in Ballet as well as Modern.

Lyrical / Contemporary

A class that is strongly based in Ballet technique and uses Jazz and Modern movements to accentuate the beauty of the art form. All Lyrical students must be enrolled in Ballet as well as Lyrical.

Pointe

For the advanced Ballet student. The student must have a recommendation from the Artistic Director as well as their Ballet Instructor. The student must also be enrolled in two ballet classes per week, in addition to their two Pointe classes per week. The student must also have written approval from an orthopedic specialist selected by OSPA INC.

Musical Theatre

This is a class in which the student will learn how to combine singing with dancing by performing various scenes from musicals or original works. Emphasis will be placed on creating a well-rounded musical theatre performer (actor/singer/dancer).

Hip-Hop

This is a very popular form of dance, which places emphasis on creativity and movement using current music and dance styles.

Tap

This class is designed to teach rhythm, timing, and coordination.

Jazz

This is a very popular form of dance, which places emphasis on creativity and movement using current music and dance styles.

Ballet

This class is designed to help students develop good technique and alignment. Students will learn the terms and structure of Classical Ballet. The class introduces barre, across the floor, and center work.

Creative Acting and Singing

Class in which the students focus on singing, acting skills, body expression, and working together in a theatre atmosphere.

Tap/Jazz

This class is designed to introduce and develop rhythm, timing and coordination. We will continue some tumbling at this level.

Pre-Ballet

This class begins to introduce students to a class with more structure. More Classical Ballet terms will be introduced in addition to more demanding work on technique.

Dance Movement

Designed to help students develop good motor skills, rhythm, balance, flexibility, coordination, tumbling, and leadership skills. Our aim is to give students a happy experience in their first years of dance.
