About Upper Room Dance

Upper Room Dance, located in downtown Bellingham, Washington, was founded in the spring of 2021 and offers a Christ-centered environment dedicated to technical and artistic dance excellence for all ages. The studio provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to nurture dancers, emphasizing body awareness, injury prevention, and anatomically driven lessons. Students can immerse themselves in a diverse range of disciplines including Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Acrobatic Dance, and Tap. Renowned instructors such as AJ Semiday, Stephanie Semiday, Taylor Russell, Ethan Sprague, Elianna Dow, Eden Dow, Fumi Hashimoto, Emerald Van Hook, and Laura Greig guide students through various levels. Specialized programs cater to younger dancers, including Rising Star and Shining Star classes. Upper Room Dance also features a Competition Team, offering dedicated dancers a platform to hone their skills. Masterclass

Seasonal master classes are provided to expand the curriculum and provide the students an opportunity to learn new styles from choreographers and professionals whose talents are highly sought after.

Stars Classes

These classes consist of our Rising Star and Shining Star classes. In these classes your tiny dancer will be invited to move and explore the space while being introduced to ballet terminology. We incorporate creative ways to recognize and cultivate flexibility, while engaging and strengthening muscles in a safe manner.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop Dance is a style of movement characterized by bounces and rocks executed to Hip Hop music. It has deep historical and social roots in Black culture, having birth roots in the Bronx, NY in Black and Latino communities during 1970s. While frequently referred to as a singular dance style, Hip Hop dance is part of a whole culture of Hip Hop.

Acrobatic Dance

These classes teach students fundamental acrobatic and gymnastics This class is strictly floor work and does not work with bars or beams. Class will focus on building core strength and flexibility while acquiring valuable skills that can be easily transferred to dance classes.

Jazz

These classes focus on traditional jazz vocabulary and various styles of jazz including broadway jazz, lyrical jazz, and commercial jazz. The class focuses on developing strength, flexibility, correct alignment and coordination, which will draw heavily from ballet technique and alignment. Students will gain a sense of individuality and originality and will develop the ability to move quickly and think fast.

Contemporary

This class explores the creative, artistic soul through a strong foundation in ballet and jazz technique. Emphasis will be on moving in and out of traditional techniques while picking up on new, subtle movement challenges. This style of dance is constantly changing and evolving with current trends in contemporary movement.

Ballet

These classes are designed to give students a detailed knowledge of classical ballet which includes technique, alignment, terminology, musicality, and artistic expression. Basic anatomy and kinesiology is also taught to develop their understanding of how their body moves. Here at URD we will primarily teach the Vaganova, Russian style, method of ballet.

Jazz

These classes focus on traditional jazz vocabulary and various styles of jazz including broadway jazz, lyrical jazz, and commercial jazz. The class focuses on developing strength, flexibility, correct alignment and coordination, which will draw heavily from ballet technique and alignment. Students will gain a sense of individuality and originality and will develop the ability to move quickly and think fast.The goal is to develop dancers who are expressive, dynamic, musical and passionate.

Register Book Class Here Please contact the studio for level evaluation. This schedule will be handled differently than the dance year. This will be on a punch card system vs Autopay. You can purchase a: 5 Class punch card $100 10 Class punch card $180 20 Class punch card $360 *punch cards are per family they can only be used between immediate family members* Please Note: Punch cards do not expire. Meaning if you don’t use them all this summer you can use them next summer. Punches can not be exchanged for classes during our dance year. Also please schedule on our “Book Class Here” each class you will attend.This lets the instructor know if there will be students that day. Peter Pan Peter Pan and Tinker Bell carry you off to the enchanted Neverland where children never grow up! There you will find all the beloved characters of this classic adventure: Captain Hook, Lost Boys, Pirates, Tiger Lily and Mermaids of the Lagoon. This camp is for 10-18yrs

Encanto Dance Camp

Four day Day camp Over 10 hours of dance Themed T-shirt All craft supplies for the camp Snack time/photos with characters (on the last day) Fun, Fun, and more Fun!!! On the last day we will invite friends and family to watch a short performance of what the dancers learned throughout the week. Check in is at 8:30 AM (on the first day only) Dancers will rotate throughout the day between different activities including: Saving the Miracle/ Prayer time Crafts Dancing Snack(that you bring from home) With Upper Room Dance being a Christ centered studio we want to take the opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus to all. So with this Camp your child will learn a memory verse en español during the Saving the Miracle time. Each craft they create will have a verse to match the craft.

Summer Dance Intensive

The Summer dance intensive is designed for older dancers 9 and above who are looking for a bit more of a challenge and to be exposed to other styles of dance. You can be a beginner and choose this option if you are looking for a challenge. We are doing an assessment on the first day and there will be two groups for the week.
