Competitive Tap

All competition classes are choreography-based class structure with mainly skill polishing and limited new skills learning. Student must be enrolled in level 2 or higher of tap.

Competitive Hip Hop

All competition classes are choreography-based class structure with mainly skill polishing and limited new skills learning. Student must be age 12 & enrolled in level 2 or higher of hip hop.

Competitive 2 Class

All competition classes are choreography-based class structure with mainly skill polishing and limited new skills learning. Styles will be contemporary and jazz. Student must be enrolled in level 2 or higher of contemporary and jazz.

Competitive 1 Classes

All competition classes are choreography-based class structure with mainly skill polishing and limited new skills learning. Styles will be contemporary and jazz. Student must be enrolled in level 2 or higher of contemporary and jazz.

Tap 3

Students will continue to practice previously learned skills as they perform them in various combinations and direction of movements. They will also learn to work not only in sync of one another but also understand and utilize tapping skills in complimentary of one another. Ability to perform visually and audibly is the goal.

Tap 2

Skills to be learned and taught: Maxie Ford grab off, paddle turn, double cramp role (flap cramp role), heel stand, Bombershay, drawbacks, Riff walks, single time steps, toe stands, Buffalo turn, Cincinatti, double Buffalo. Ability to perform the skills taught in Tap 1 on command and without hesitation.

Tap 1

Skills to be learned and taught: Toe taps / toe tip, toe dig / step, stomp, heel dig / heel drop, scuff / brush, flap, ball change, shuffle / scuffle, riffle, hop / jump / leap, chug, heel click / toe click, paradiddle, cramp roll, 4 count riff walk, buffalo, Cheryl temple, flap ball change, Maxie Ford.

Pre-Tap

Students will learn to get comfortable with tap shoes. They will learn basic tap terminology along with other creative movements. Main focus in this class is to understand beat and rhythm. No experience required.

Pointe

Students will utilize previously learned ballet techniques while working in pointe shoes. Barre work will remain an essential part of the class as the students continue to practice more center floor work and cross floor combinations.

Pre-Pointe

A class designed for students wishing to pursue pointe. Emphasis is placed on lower leg strength and flexibility. This class builds the dancer’s skills for entrance into Pointe. The class will be composed mainly of barre work with some center floor work and cross floor combinations. (Note: If accepted into this class, do NOT purchase pointe shoes without instructor’s approval. Initial training is done in regular ballet slippers.)

Hip Hop 2

As the students continue to learn more footwork, they will also combine and transition between already learned moves. Some of the new footworks are slides, glides, airwalk, moonwalk, happy feet, heel toe, pin-drop, and hip-twist. The students will work a little bit into pop and locks as well as tutting. Overall, there will be more creative movements and higher energy in this class than in Hip Hop 1.

Hip Hop 1

The main objective in this class is to learn how to let loose and feel the music. The student will build their confidence through discovering their individuality of movements and flow. Furthermore, they will learn simple body isolation, group peels/ripples, the art and importance of levels, and strong, stable execution of movements. At the meantime, they will also practice variation of the step touch and learn some of the simpler footwork like the shuffle, criss-cross, kicks, rock step, heel-toe (basic swivel), ball change and grapevine.

Jazz 3

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Jazz 2 or instructor evaluation and approval. Skills to be taught and mastered: chaîné turn, double turn, split leap, calypso, fan kick. Student will be able to fluently move with counts and naturally incorporate emotions to music and performances.

Jazz 2

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Jazz 1 or instructor evaluation and approval. Skills to be taught and mastered: Single turn, hitch kick, jazz walk, chassé. Student will learn to connect movements with counts and incorporate emotions to music and performances.

Jazz 1

Prerequisites: At least 1 year of dance instruction or instructor evaluation and approval. Skills to be taught and mastered: Jazz square, ball change, pivot turn, grapevine. Student will work on building stage confidence and connecting movements with music.

Creative Movement

Students will be introduced to some basic ballet movements (positions) and terminology along with other creative movements. Ability to follow music and instruction will be the main focus of this class. Children should be confident enough to be left in class without a parent in the room but may be accompanied by a parent, if needed.

Contemporary 3

At this level, as the students continue to study the style of contemporary, they will learn the history and come to the realization that contemporary performances are not solely a story. They will also learn and understand the thoughts and feelings of a choreographer as they become the choreographer themselves.

Contemporary 2

Student will continue to practice the study of movements with music tempo and beats as they also explore a variety of movements in speed and style within different emotions. Student will progressively develop skills to interpret music and emotions through experimentation of improvisation.

Contemporary 1

Student will work on letting loose and the ability to move with music tempo and beats and progress into interpreting music with emotions towards the end of the season. The use of story line-based choreography may be used to guide the development and understanding of contemporary at this earlier stage.

Ballet 4

Required for students invited to take pointe. Designed for dancer looking to fine tune their skills and knowledge.

Ballet 3

For advanced ballet dancers looking to challenge their previous knowledge and training. Students will learn more difficult combinations and skills, while developing finesse and classic style.

Ballet 2

This class will take the skills learned in Ballet 1 and build upon them to strengthen the dancer’s precision and ability. The key focus for the students will be leg strength and flexibility, chaine and pique turns, and double pirouettes as they also learn to execute combination of previously learned and new skills.

Ballet 1

Students will continue to practice their ballet barre exercises and basic ballet movements as they begin to practice more on center. They will also be introduced to turns and leaps. Musicality, ballet techniques, proper body alignment, and spotting will be the focus at this level to progress forward.

Pre-Ballet

Students will learn mostly barre-work, basic ballet movements, and ballet terminology in association with music.

Acro – Open*

Skill of Focus : Can be front handsprings, layouts, twist/fulls, or other combination skills; will vary depending on the demand of the student. Prerequisites : Depending on skill focus, but prior acrobatic/gymnastic experience required

Acro – Flips*

Skill of Focus : Tucks (Front and Back) Prerequisites : Must have a powerful and controlled round off rebound

Acro – Ninjaz*

Skill of Focus : Back Handsprings Prerequisites : Must have a powerful and controlled round off rebound; ability to hold an assisted hand stand

Acro – Flight*

Skill of Focus : Side Aerial Prerequisites : Strong round off rebound; controlled cartwheel with straight legs

Acro – Steps*

Skill of Focus : Walkovers (Front and Back) Prerequisites : Must be able to do a bridge; execute a clean, controlled handstand without assistance

Acro – Wheels*

Skill of Focus : Cartwheels and Round Off Prerequisites : Be able to do a handstand on their own using a wall; must be able to do a forward roll

Acro – Basics*

Skill of Focus : Handstands, forward rolls, rebounds, and other body control drills Prerequisites : No prerequisites required

Acro Perform

Acro Perform is choreography-based class. It will be the only acro class that will learn a routine and be a part of the annual recital. Students will apply what they learn in the instructional skill class in combination of stunts and other acro skills.
