About Central Wisconsin School of Ballet

Central Wisconsin School of Ballet, located in Wausau, Wisconsin, has been a beacon of quality dance education for over 55 years, founded in 1969 by Waltraud G. Karkar. Building on Madame Karkar's extensive European and United States training, including the Vaganova Grades, the school offers a comprehensive dance education for all ages and skill levels. Under the continued legacy of her son, Patrik Kasper, who trained at the Joffrey Ballet School and enjoyed a professional career, the studio emphasizes a strong foundation in classical ballet technique, particularly the Vaganova method. Programs are thoughtfully divided into four divisions: the Children's Program (ages 3-11) introduces creative movement and foundational styles like tap and ballet through 'Little Dancer' and 'Combo' classes, progressing to 'Pre-Ballet' and 'Beginner Ballet.' The structured Student Division offers advanced training in ballet, jazz, contemporary, and musical theater for serious dancers. Open Dance & Fitness classes cater to teens and adults with minimal or no prior experience, making dance accessible. The school also hosts customized workshops. Central Wisconsin School of Ballet boasts an award-winning summer intensive program, attracting esteemed guest artists such as Irina Kolpakova and Vladilen Semynov. The faculty and guest instructors contributing to the high caliber of instruction include Grace Meyer, Kayla Ehrhardt, Betsy Wendt, Kristin Troyer, and director Patrik Kasper, with past engagement from renowned professionals like Misty Copeland, Sarah Lane, James Whiteside, and Stella Abrera. Performance opportunities are a key element, most notably their annual holiday production of The Nutcracker. The studio is dedicated to fostering a love for dance, cultivating critical thinking, and nurturing artistic passion in a creative and enriching environment.
