About McNamara McCarthy School of Irish Dance

The McNamara McCarthy School of Irish Dance, nestled in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, is a premier destination dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering a profound love for the rich tradition of Irish dance. Founded by accomplished dancers Anne (McCarthy) Blume, Laura (McNamara) Donaldson, and Michelle McNamara, the studio benefits from their collective experience spanning over three decades, ignited by their own passion for the art form from a young age. Our esteemed faculty, featuring Anne Blume, TCRG, Laura Donaldson, TCRG, and Michelle McNamara, TCRG, are celebrated for their extensive experience, having coached dancers to numerous world championship titles. They guide students of all ages and skill levels, from beginners taking their initial steps to elite competitive levels. McNamara McCarthy offers comprehensive instruction in Irish dance, alongside complementary styles like ballet and contemporary dance, thanks to the expertise of instructors such as Julia Dorf. We emphasize building self-confidence, poise, and teamwork, preparing students for success both on and off the stage. Specialized programs, including MM Summer Stars for 3- to 4-year-olds and MM Summer Superstars for ages 5 to 12, introduce young dancers to foundational Irish steps, jigs, and reels, focusing on balance, coordination, and body awareness. These programs culminate in performance opportunities at local events, including the renowned Milwaukee Irish Fest. At McNamara McCarthy, we are committed to providing a supportive and engaging environment for every dancer.

Our Beginner class is for children who are new to Irish dance. Like our Minis, we focus on developing balance, coordination, and body awareness. Beginners will learn Irish dance footwork, like the Irish jig and reel. For dancers ready to take the next “step,” Beginners will have options to perform at community events, such as local festivals and parades, in their first year of classes. Beginners will also have an opportunity to compete. There are several Irish dance competitions in the Milwaukee area throughout the year. MM dancers compete locally as Beginners, and as they gain experience, they will have the option to travel for competitions.
