Competition dance

Auditions for the 2026 – 2027 competition season will be Wednesday, May 6 from 4-7 pm. If you are interested in competition dance, please email for more details. Competition team is a year long commitment. Choreography sessions begin in August, and the team practices all year participating in three regional competitions and a national competition in the summer of 2027.

Clogging

Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe, or both against a floor or each other to create audible rhythms, usually to the downbeat with the heel keeping the rhythm.

Improvisation

Dance improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating movement. Development of movement material is facilitated through a variety of creative explorations including body mapping through levels, shape, and dynamics schema. Improvisation is taught as a part of our contemporary classes at Studio C.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Jazz

A stylistic, energetic dance form using contemporary music. Jazz can be seen from Broadway Musicals to Music Videos. This form of dance involves isolations of the body, stretching, and rhythmic exercises combining a variety of styles into an overall discipline that can broaden any student’s repertoire. NOTE: ballet is required for all jazz students.

Tap

Tap dancing turns beats of the music into a fun way of feeling rhythm. Students learn tap terminology and to apply rhythm and timing to tap combination. Tap dance develops a keen sense of rhythm as well as coordination.

Company

This class is designed to build flexibility, strength, and technique through intense stretching, barre work, and a focus on leaps and turns. This class does not perform a number in the show, so there is no costume fee. This class is intense and intended for the serious dancer. NOTE: company is required for all ballet en pointe students.

Ballet en Pointe

Without proper technique, an attempt at dancing en pointe can cause injury. Children with growing feet should not dance en pointe unless under the strict supervision of an instructor, nor should anyone lacking adequate strength and training. The introduction to pointe work must be gradual. Dancers should train for several years in soft slippers before they wear pointe shoes. Then only a few minutes of each class are devoted to special pointe exercises. Eventually dancers progress to wearing pointe shoes for half, or all of class. The proper training and care of my students takes priority over a dancer’s desire for pointe shoes. All dancers with the technique, strength, discipline and work ethic will be promoted to beginning pointe at the time that is right for them individually.

Ballet

All students are encouraged to study Ballet, the base form of all dance, along with any other dance forms they choose. Ballet increases strength and flexibility, enhances coordination, and develops discipline inside and out of the studio. This training is the most important dance training a student will have. Ballet is required for all jazz and pointe students.
