About Downtown Dance Conservatory

Downtown Dance Conservatory (DDC), located in historic downtown Gadsden, Alabama, is a premier institution offering a robust classical and contemporary dance education for students from primary to pre-professional levels. Under the artistic direction of Linze Rickles McRae, who holds a Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies from the Royal Academy of Dance, DDC emphasizes classical ballet technique adhering to Royal Academy of Dance standards, including pointe work and variations. The conservatory provides a diverse curriculum encompassing Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Contemporary, and Character dance. For younger students, the IMAGIDANCE program (ages 3-5) sparks imagination and early dancing skills, while the LOWER SCHOOL serves grades 1-6 and the UPPER SCHOOL caters to more serious dancers. Instructors include experienced artists such as Laura Cornwell, Krystin, Cammie McFarling, Linze Rickles McRae, and Azalea McRae. DDC fosters a non-competitive atmosphere that encourages cooperation and a connected art form. Dedicated dancers have opportunities to train through the Downtown Dance Artists Ensemble, an honors-level group involved in community performances and international tours, showcasing a pre-professional and career-building focus. The studio also hosts an annual DDC Workshop Series with master classes and camps across diverse genres. With three well-equipped studios, DDC serves over 500 dedicated students weekly, actively engaging with the community through outreach programs and public performances, including their annual productions. Programs and class schedules are typically structured across Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
