Founded on May 13, 2021, by Artistic Director Alexa Zozaya, BFAZ offers an immersive experience in traditional Mexican folk dances for students of all ages. With over three decades of experience, Alexa Zozaya, a certified specialist in traditional Mexican dance techniques recognized by esteemed institutions in Mexico, guides dancers with her extensive knowledge and passion. She previously directed Grupo Folklórico Miztontli at the University of Arizona. BFAZ provides a structured yet welcoming environment with programs catering to various developmental stages. These include 'Mini Folklórico' for ages 3-5, 'Infantil 1' and 'Infantil 2' for beginners and intermediate learners aged 6-11, and a 'Mixed' level class for all ages with beginner to intermediate experience. Advanced dancers aged 17 and above can audition for the 'Professional' (PRO) group, which offers specialized training. Dancers are encouraged to connect with traditions through specific attire and accessories that vary by level. Beyond its core focus, BFAZ also offers instruction in Ballet and Flamenco. The studio actively engages in national and international competitions and festivals, such as the Sun City Dance Classic and the Festival Iberoamericano de Danza Tradicional in Bogotá, Colombia, showcasing a commitment to excellence and performance.
