City Ballet School

Body Conditioning class based on Pilates, for all students in the Intensive Program. Each student will need a Yoga mat and socks.

The City Ballet of San Diego has a two year Studio Company Program for students selected from the Summer Intensive dancing at a pre-professional level. This program serves as a stepping stone from advanced student to professional dancer. A strong emphasis is placed on technical strength and artistry. As a part of their daily student program, Studio Company Members also take three company classes per week, and are often invited to dance with the City Ballet of San Diego in the corps de ballet.

The Pre-Professional Ballet 6 and Studio Company Programs have been created for students who are truly serious about their ballet training and may be considering pursuing a career as a ballet dancer. The students in these programs take classes on a daily basis. The Ballet 6 curriculum includes Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Contemporary, and Pas de Deux. The Studio Company curriculum includes Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Pas de Deux , and Company Repertoire class .

Beginning Ballet – Academic grade 1 st and up

This program is carefully designed for preschoolers and kindergartners. It specifically meets the developmental needs during these precious years. An emphasis is placed on musicality and coordination, and inspires the young student to fall in love with ballet.

Students are taught the essence of several classical styles which creates a versatility and well roundedness not to be underestimated. The school’s strong curriculum gives the students the tools and skills they will need to meet the demands required in today’s dance world.

Approx. 5-7 years ballet experience*, ballet technique and pointe, as well as variations and contemporary.

Approx. 7+ years ballet experience*, ballet technique and pointe, as well as variations and contemporary.

Approx. 4-5 years ballet experience*, ballet technique, turns & allegro, and pointe and pre-pointe classes.

Approx. 3-4 years ballet experience*, ballet technique, turns & allegro, and jazz for Ballet 2 and 3 students.

Academic grade 1 st and up, ~Beginning Ballet, ballet technique and creative dance for Pre/Kinder and Ballet 1 students.

The Adult Program is designed for adult students of all ages and levels of training, from former dancers and professionals, to adults who are interested in learning ballet for the first time. Correct body placement, alignment, strength, and flexibility are emphasized in each class. This is an open program offering single classes to all adults.

Beginning Level Technique class designed for adults with a passion for ballet, requiring a minimum of at least one year of previous ballet class experience.

Pointe class for Intermediate / Advanced Level students, part of the Adult Intensive Program.
