About Telluride Dance Palm Arts

Nestled in the picturesque mountain town of Telluride, Colorado, Telluride Dance Palm Arts, established in September 2011, carries on the legacy of the Telluride Dance Academy as a vibrant center for dance education. Dedicated to cultivating a lifelong passion for dance, movement, and physical fitness, the studio fosters an appreciation for the art form through excellent instruction. Palm Arts Dance offers a diverse range of dance instruction for enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels, boasting a rich curriculum encompassing classical Ballet, energetic Hip Hop, expressive Jazz, fluid Lyrical, foundational Modern, and dynamic Contemporary styles. Budding performers can also explore the excitement of Musical Theater and the elegance of Ballroom dancing. Under the guidance of accomplished instructors, including Nicole Hattler (former Artistic Director of Vail Youth Ballet Company and Asheville City Ballet), Katie Shewbridge (professional performer and choreographer), Kelsey Trottier (contemporary and African dance), Laya Barak (acclaimed director and choreographer), Jessica Galbo (American Ballet Theatre background), Tivoli Evans (New York City-based performer and educator), Shirley Fortenberry (trained with Royal Academy of Dance, danced with Australian Ballet Company), Shannon Westveer (extensive training in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop), and Keri Sutton (over 15 years teaching Hip Hop, Tap, and Ballet), students receive expert instruction. The studio emphasizes clear progression for young dancers, with Pre-K classes requiring participants to be at least 3 years old as of January 1st. Palm Arts Dance offers two main performance sessions each school year—a fall performance and a spring showcase—complementing these with enriching summer camps, intensive programs, masterclasses, and integrated workshops, such as an 8-week Hip Hop Workshop. Students engage in their training across two well-equipped studios within the Telluride School District complex, with access to the esteemed Michael D. Palm Theatre and BoB Saunders Black Box Theatre. The studio aims to foster a love for movement and artistic expression, developing strong technique and artistry across a range of disciplines, and prioritizes student safety, aligning weather cancellation policies with the Telluride School District.
