Classes

Golden Girls 1 & 2

Dress in stretchy clothes. This can be shorts, leggings, tank tops, or t-shirts. Just wear what is comfortable for your body! For shoes, depending on which month you attend you will either need jazz shoes, tennis shoes, tap shoes, or clogging shoes. Email us if you are unsure of what class is happening when!

Tumbling, Lyrical, Contemporary, Leaps and Turns Pre-Pointe, & Pointe

Dancers are required and expected to wear leotards and other tight fitted clothing of their choice. For tumbling, dancers are aloud to go barefoot but for recital might need jazz shoes for their dance. Lyrical, Contemporary, and Leaps and Turns dancers can go barefoot or wear shoes that help them excel in class. Pre-Pointe are to have the shoes sold at our front desk and pointe must have pointe shoes after evaluated and instructed to buy them by the instructor.

Jazz, Tap, & Clogging

Hip-Hop

These classes are typically following a ballet class, dancers are allowed to throw a t-shirt and shorts on over their leotard. However, sweat shirts, sweat pants, and overly baggy clothing are still not accepted.

Creative Movement, Combo, & Ballet 1

This is the only class that is appropriate to wear baggy clothing - as it is a "street" style of dance. It is NOT required that the dancers wear baggy clothes, but they are welcome too. Footwear for this class includes sneakers or tennis shoes. For recital, we require a specific shoe to wear, but you are encouraged to use them all year round. This shoe will be announced when the costume is chosen.

PrePointe & Pointe

An advanced Ballet class to be aloud to purchase pointe shoes, you must receive approval from the instructor. This class is a p re-professional Ballet that requires specific shoes and uniform.

Ballet Strength & Technique

A technique style Ballet class focusing on strengthening the lower body in preparation for Pointe class.

Synergy Competition Team

This is for students who audition and make our team. Our team does all styles of dance at advanced levels. They do multiple shows and travel to competitions.

Tricks Lab

These classes focuses on increasing the student's strength and flexibility. There are different levels of these classes based on age and abilities mastered.

Leaps and Turns

A technique class designed to improve the overall ability of the student in all forms of dance. Students will work to increase extension, flexibility, turns with more precision and various leaps.

Clogging I, II, & III

A type of dance where the dancer's footwear is used musically by striking the heel, toe, or both against the floor, usually emphasizing the downbeat of the music while displaying enthusiastic footwork. We have several clogging classes based on the student's age and experience.

Lyrical & Contemporary

A fusion of ballet and jazz technique; choreography demonstrates emotion, extensions, and control techniques while allowing students to stylize movements into fluid transitions.

Jazz I, II, & III

A fun high energy class where dancers will focus on the development of style, while learning the steps and techniques of turns and jumps, through progressions, combinations, and dance routines. Jazz classes will also enhance the students flexibility, strength, and stamina.

Hip-Hop I & II

An incredibly energetic and upbeat dance form that teaches the latest funk and street styles.

Tap​ I, II, & III

A form of dance that uses the sounds of one's tap shoes as a percussive instrument by hitting the floor in a rhythmic pattern. We have several levels of tap classes based on one's age and experience.

Ballet I, II, & III

An artistic dance form that is based on technique, characterized by movements of grace, precision, and fluidity. It is the foundation for all dance styles. We recommend that every dancer takes Ballet in addition to their other classes.

Combo Ballet/Tap

This is a class for the 4 & 5 year old students who have had very little dance experience. This class combines ballet & tap or ballet & jazz (depending on the class you choose) , and creative movement.

Creative Movement

A creative movement class for 2 and 3 year olds designed to enhance gross motor development, listening skills, musicality, and nurture the creative spirit.

Acrobatics

Amanda Conti began her athletic career as a competitive gymnast, dancer, and cheerleader. Throughout her life, Amanda has also had the pleasure of working as both a recreational and professional gymnastics coach under USA Gymnastics, as well as earned her Youth Exercise Specialist certification under the National Academy of Sports Medicine.” In addition to this, Amanda currently teaches acrobatics at Highland School of Dance and Wendy’s Dance Company, in addition to working with Parkinson’s patients in an active rehabilitation program at Kelly Recreational Center.

Recreational

Breanna Jones is a Polk County native who was raised in Auburndale, FL, and graduated from AHS in 2022. She grew up dancing at the Wright Step School of Dance in Winter Haven, where she danced for 15 years and competed on the Xtreme Team for 11 of those years. She has been a dancer in the grand opening of Legoland Florida’s Heartlake City and also appeared in the Fashion Society’s opening number choreographed by Lane Napper from Nickelodeon.

Olivia began her athletic training as a competitive gymnast, and participated in both dance and gymnastics to aid in achieving a unique combination of artistry and athleticism that she would later take into her career as a professional dancer. She began her dance studies under the instruction of Hayley Stewart at Highland School of Dance during the school year, and spent her summers training with institutions such as Patel Conservatory and Modas Dance, while also working on earning her grade four certification in the Cecchetti technique.

Jermaine Thornton began his dance training in lyrical jazz and ballet at Port Saint Lucie High School under Brian Spector. He earned a dance scholarship to Indian River Community College, studying classical ballet and modern techniques with Molly Magee and Loretta Miller.
