Visual Arts classes

SOPA is proud to offer Visual Arts classes. No prior art experience is necessary to benefit from our program, and students with previous art class experience enjoy this weekly class.

Jazz, Contemporary, Acro, Ballet, Conditioning, Tap Class

Rehearsal Classes are where Company and Ensemble Members will rehearse their songs/pieces for upcoming events. Since these groups will be performing for the community, this additional rehearsal time is necessary. Rehearsal class is just as valuable as the technique classes.

Company

Our audition-based Performing Groups aim to build up, nurture, and train dancers and musical theatre performers to achieve confidence, build relationships, and learn skills for all facets of life. We aim to instill and cultivate a love for the arts in each child that will continue outside our studio. Our groups receive many outreach opportunities allowing them to perform in the community and surrounding areas.

Musical Theatre Ensemble

Our audition-based Performing Groups aim to build up, nurture, and train dancers and musical theatre performers to achieve confidence, build relationships, and learn skills for all facets of life. We aim to instill and cultivate a love for the arts in each child that will continue outside our studio. Our groups receive many outreach opportunities allowing them to perform in the community and surrounding areas.

Enrichment Programs (dance)

Steppin' Out Performing Arts offers a variety of enrichment programs for preschools, daycares, and primary schools. This program can be taught during the school day or after school hours, and is a wonderful opportunity to allow families the convenience of participating in our programs in the comfort of their child's educational setting. Participating in our enrichment program allows children to explore their interests and grow in skills and creativity.

Acrobatic Arts

Acrobatic Arts (Acro) is a progression system for teaching AcroDance. Through thoughtful progressions, teachers will introduce new skills as the dancer has trained his/her body for the skill and is ready for it. Emphasis on artistry and fluidity from skill to skill, and training on skills for the left and right sides of the body. Students are trained in levels, Primary - Level 6.

Tap II

Tap dancing is an enjoyable style that allows dancers to make rhythms and music with their feet. Students will develop coordination and speed as they learn routines and work on barre and center floor skills. Attire: Leotard, shorts/leggings. Black-laced tap shoes are required. Hair in a ponytail or bun. 45-Minutes

Pre/Beginning Pointe

**Must have 3 consecutive years of ballet class. Must be evaluated by the instructor prior to enrollment and/or have a recommendation from the previous instructor. Email the studio to schedule an evaluation.

Musical Theatre Ensemble

Our audition-based performance group aimed build up, nurture and train dancers and musical theatre performers. They perform in the community, Local events (festivals, parades, etc.) and larger scale trips. **Requirements are one technique class (Ballet or Jazz) and HIGHLY recommend an acting class.

Leaps and Turns

This class is a nonperforming based class to work on leaps, turns, and across-the-floor techniques to improve their skills in their regular weekly classes. Jazz or pirouette shoes are required.

Jazz II/III

Jazz allows dancers to develop technical skills such as leaps and turns and incorporates them into dynamic dance routines using upbeat music from a variety of genres. Attire: Leotard and shorts/leggings. Black jazz shoes and nude convertible tights are required. Hair in a ponytail or bun.

Hip Hop II

Students will learn some of the newest dance styles, jumps, and tricks in this high-energy class. They will practice basic elements of hip-hop and break dancing. Leotard and shorts/leggings. In class dancers can wear hip-hop sneakers. The instructor will make any shoe recommendations before upcoming performances.

Contemporary/Lyrical

Lyrical uses a combination of modern and contemporary skills to tell a story through movement using the lyrics of contemporary/modern music. The instructor will make recommendations on the type of shoe being used for upcoming performances (color and style), but in class, dancers can wear nude pirouette dance shoes.

Company Performing Group

Jazz-based class for dancers participating in outside community events, and parades. **Requirements for class: Jazz or Contemporary AND Acro or Ballet

Ballet III

**Must have continuously taken 3 years of ballet to register and must be evaluated with instructor approval. Solid color leotard, skirt, ballet pink tights, pink tieless ballet shoes.

Acting I

This class will focus on the basics of acting. Participants will learn warm-ups, proper projection and use of the voice, stage presence, character development, and many other skills to help develop a well-rounded actor. Actors should wear clothes that are easy to move in and no flip flops/crocs.

Acro Level 3-5

Acrobatic Arts is progressive system and teachers will introduce new skills as the dancer and their body is ready for it. Dancers will develop a balanced skill set, as well as a healthy body in flexibility and strength. **Students must pass Level 2 Acro to participate in this class. **Skills test required.

Acro Level 2-4

Acrobatic Arts is progressive system and teachers will introduce new skills as the dancer and their body is ready for it. Dancers will develop a balanced skill set, as well as a healthy body in flexibility and strength. *Students must pass Level 1 Acro to participate in this class.

Tap I

A great class for beginners in Musical Theatre. Students will focus on basics of musical theatre dance, singing, and acting. Participants will learn lyrics and choreography from popular musicals/movies. Students will be introduced in class to basic voice exercises and learn to sing in small and large groups.

Jazz/Acro

Jazz allows dancers to develop technical skills such as leaps and turns and incorporates them into dynamic dance routines using upbeat music from a variety of genres. In this high-energy class, your child will learn tumbling skills that build coordination and strength such as forward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels.

Jazz II

Jazz allows dancers to develop technical skills such as leaps and turns and incorporates them into dynamic dance routines using upbeat music from a variety of genres Attire: Leotard and shorts or leggings. Black jazz shoes and nude convertible tights are required. Hair in a ponytail or bun.

In this high-energy class, your child will learn tumbling skills that build flexibility, coordination, and strength. No experience is necessary. Biketard or leotard and shorts and required and hair pulled back in a ponytail or pigtails. Bare feet are recommended. *Primary-Level Acro

Ballet/Jazz/Acro Combo

This class offers a well-rounded introduction to dance. Using stories, props, and fun music they will learn ballet, jazz, and acro/tumbling skills while experiencing the magic of a fairytale. No experience is necessary. Pink tieless ballet shoes are required. Leotard and skirt (any color and style).

Parent & Tot Ballet/Jazz/Acro

Parent & Tot Tumbling

In this high-energy class, you'll learn the basics of warmups, stretches, flexibility and strength exercises, and various tumbling skills. The parent will learn spotting skills to help their child develop the techniques learned in class. They will also enjoy music and creative movement to make it extra fun!
