About Wings Dance Studio

Wings Dance Studio, located in Lockport, Illinois, was founded in 2010 by Shannon Labus with the vision of creating a premier training ground for both concert and competitive dancers. Our comprehensive curriculum is designed to foster confidence, strength, and a lifelong passion for movement in students of all ages and skill levels. We offer a diverse range of dance disciplines including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theater, and Acrobatic. Our talented faculty, including Shannon Labus, Aimee Maley, Lindsey Beebe, Emily Brooks, Christopher Kelley, Ashley Kosciolek, Brenna Labus, Colleen Panega, and Chloe Schram, brings a wealth of experience from prestigious institutions and professional productions. Wings Dance Studio emphasizes foundational technique and artistic expression in a supportive environment. We are home to the "Soar Dance Company," a competitive team that has achieved significant recognition, and also run the "Go Wild Program" for specialized offerings and performance opportunities. Classes

Dance Basics

An opportunity to sample different dance styles in one class

Leaps and Turn Technique

A class devoted to elevating and improving a dancers jumps and turns within their level

Poms Tech

Dance Team requirements are becoming more intense every year so this class combines building the necessary technique to achieve Dance Team Skills with regular practice for progression

Tap

This legendary dance form is all about the rhythms made with the taps on the heels and toes. Dancewear and black oxford tap shoes required-character taps required for Advanced Tap

Acro

This class takes the basics of tumbling and refines them for use in choreography. Flexibility and tumbling skills will be learned. Beginning is for new tumblers with little or no experience in the 5 - 8 year old range. Intermediate is for older beginners aged 9+. Advanced is for experienced tumblers working on more advanced skills. Acro Dance is for the experienced tumbler and dancer, finding the perfect blend of acro skills and dance technique performed without mats. Instructor consent required. Comfortable clothes required. Ballet shoes, socks or bare feet are fine. Hair should be pulled back out of face

Tumbling

Children will learn basic tumbling skills.

Musical Theater

This class will focus on different styles and shows in Musical Theater. Students will receive choreography as well as character training. Because Musical Theater relies so heavily on knowledge of dance technique, dancers must also be enrolled in Jazz to take Musical Theater. Musical Theater dancers are, first and foremost, actors. Dancewear and tan jazz shoes required-tan character shoes required for Intermediate and Advanced

Dance360

A cross training conditioning program built specifically for dancers, by dancers to improve skills and technique across all genres of dance.

Soar Dance Company

Hip Hop

Helps develop musicality, isolations, and free style movement. Hip Hop is NOT the same as jazz. It has its own history and culture. All music and movement will maintain Wings dedication to appropriate choices for children. Dancers younger than 10 will enjoy our Intro to Hip Hop class. Dancewear and clean gym shoes required

Lyrical

This lovely dance form takes the technique of ballet and jazz and fuses it together to create emotional choreography. Dancers must have had at least one year of ballet and be currently enrolled in a ballet class. Tan jazz shoes, paws or bare feet. Dancewear required. Hair should be pulled back out of face

Contemporary

Utilizes Modern and Ballet technique as well as improvisation techniques. Dancers must be enrolled in Ballet to take Contemporary. (at least 1 class for Intro, Beginning, and Intermediate. 2+ ballet classes for Advanced). Dancewear required. Hair should be pulled back out of face

Jazz

Children love jazz class because of it’s energy and freedom of interpretation. Jazz is founded in a firm technical base, however, and therefore it is required that dancers enrolling in Level 3 also take at least one hour of ballet. Dancers in level 4-6 are required to take 2 ballet classes/week. Leotards, dancewear and tan jazz shoes required. Heels required for Level 6. Hair should be pulled back out of face. Level 1A, 1B, 2, and Beginning Jazz 10+ meet once a week for one hour. Level 3 and above require instructor consent and are expected to continue training over the summer to maintain their level.

Cecchetti

A methodology of teaching ballet. Cecchetti classes are by invitation only. Summer classes are required for those preparing for exams.

Teen Ballet

Meets once a week for one hour. 6th grade and up, this class will cover the basics of ballet.

Ballet

Ballet is a wonderful foundation for dancers. It teaches grace and fluidity as well as discipline and precision. Our ballet is taught from the Cecchetti Method and has been utilized for generations to produce highly skilled dancers. Each level has a specific color leotard required for female dancers. Pink tights and pink ballet shoes required. Hair should be pulled back in a neat bun and minimal jewelry. Wraps, skirts, or shorts will be removed upon instructor request as will any hair accessories or jewelry that will be distracting. Gentlemen are to wear black tights, white shirt , and black ballets shoes.

Intro to Dance

Teaches beginning jazz and Hip Hop skills to ages 5-7. Leotards, dancewear and tan jazz shoes required. Hair should be pulled back out of face

Dance Combo

Children will begin to learn the very basics of ballet and tap in a fun but structured environment. Level 1 is for 3-4 year olds, Level 2 is for 4-5 year olds, Kindergarten Combo is considered Level 3. Dancewear and black tap AND pink leather ballet shoes required

Move and Groove

This class uses children’s natural delight in music and movement to begin teaching listening skills that are fundamental to their dance training. Comfortable clothes and clean gym shoes or ballet shoes required
