Classes

Performance Teams

Performance teams are a perfect platform for your dancer to find and explore their inner performer while they hone their technical skills. All dancers that audition will be placed on at least one performance team. Teams will perform (four times a year) from January through May at various venues near Rootz. Performances in the past include: Chicago Bulls Game, Hawthorn Mall, Christian Heritage Academy, Great America and the Genesee Theater.

Competition Teams

Competition teams are a serious year-long commitment (August 2025 through May 2026) that allows the dancer to build strength, flexibility, and technique while learning their routine(s) for competition. Competition Dancers will participate in three competitions during the year as well as two performances at local venues such as Chicago Bulls Game, Christian Heritage Academy and our year-end recital at Genesee Theater. Not all dancers that audition will be placed on a competition team. However, all dancers that audition will be offered a position on at least one Performance Team.

Competition - Jr. Elite

These small Competition Teams will focus on one routine using a single style of dance. The single style teams will practice for 60 minutes once per week.

Competition - Core Premier

These Competition Teams will focus on three routines using a combination of Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Jazz. The CORE teams will practice two times per week for a total of four hours, which includes one hour of technique. CORE dancers are required to take a Ballet/Acro, Teen Technique or Core Conditioning class.

Competition Teams

Competition Teams are a serious commitment that allows the dancer to perfect their craft. Teams rehearse weekly over the course of the school year to prepare for two to three competitions as well as two performances at local venues, such as Chicago Bulls Games , Hawthorn Mall, Northbrook Court and Genesee Theater.

Performance Teams

Performance Teams are for those dancers that are looking to develop their skills and showcase those for their friends and family. Performance Teams rehearse weekly over the course of the year to prepare for three to four performances between February and June at local venues, such as Chicago Bulls Games , Hawthorn Mall, Northbrook Court, Lincoln Park Zoo, Great America and the Genesee Theater.

The Relevé Dance Company is designed to give dancers in 1st grade and up the chance to perform at local venues. Dancers in 2nd grade and up have the chance to compete in addition to perform!

More serious dancers may want to join our Relevé Dance Company, which offers Performance, Prep, Competition and CORE Competition Teams (three styles of dance). Our teams perform several times throughout the year at major venues and our Competition and Core teams compete against other dance studios from all over Illinois.

Relevé Dance program

Our Relevé Dance program offers quality dance education for children ages 18 months and above in a nurturing and inspiring environment. Our programming includes session based dance classes, a year-long recital program, and performance and competitive dance company teams. At Rootz, we believe in love, kindness, making memories, and building character. Hip Hop & Poms

In Hip Hop/Poms, students will learn movements that have elements of poppin’, locking, and breaking, as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style. This combination class will include one Hip Hop dance and one Poms dance each session.

Tutus & Tennis Shoes

Young dancers learn a basic introduction to ballet technique as well as freestyle hip hop.

Disney Dance

Each week, Disney fans will learn new moves to their favorite Disney songs. Come sing along with us as we dance to our favorite tunes!

Ballet & Tap

The tap portion provides fast footwork and rhythm through sound. Dancers will learn proper technique, terminology, and movement performed to classic and contemporary music with an emphasis on FUN! Ballet/Tap is designed to be a combination of ballet study and beginning tap sounds and movements, devoting half the time to each on a regular basis.

Hip Hop

Students will learn movements that have elements of poppin’, locking, and breaking, as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style.

Eras Experience

Are you ready for it? Get ready to shake it off in your own Eras tour experience in this Taylor Swift themed dance class of your child's wildest dreams! Your dancer will remember it all too well, and there will be no blank space to fill as we have so much fun and learn gorgeous dance moves!

Princess Ballet

In this unique class, students will enhance their balance & poise as well as hand/feet coordination through basic ballet skills. This magical ballet class is full of imagery, fun and musical rhythms. Join us in this princess inspired class as we use stories and props to create an experience that is engaging and fun for young dancers.

Parent & Child Ballet

Parents and toddlers come ready to dance as we warm up together, pretend to be princes and princesses, build strength and flexibility, and learn very basic dance vocabulary. This class is a great precursor to our Princess Ballet classes.

Parent & Child Dance

Join us for a 30 minute class full of creative movement and music. This high energy class uses elements of dance to stimulate coordination, balance, music interpretation, motor development, and creative movement.

Tot Hop

Dancers will learn fun pre-hip hop moves and combinations, performed to their favorite music.

Ballet & Jazz

Ballet/Jazz is a combination class where ballerinas work on their technical skills each week for 30 minutes and we focus on learning proper terminology, coordination, and turnout and arm positions. Then we change into our Jazz/Gym shoes and learn contemporary moves set to popular music!

Boys Hip Hop

Boys Hip Hop is designed specifically for boys who love music, love to move, and want to develop their own sense of style. In Boys Hip Hop, students will learn movements that have elements of poppin’, locking, and breaking, as well as freestyle movement. Hip Hop gives the dancer a freedom of expression while learning technique that defines the dance.

Kidz Bop

Set to the tune of the popular Kidz Bop series of music, students will learn beginning jazz and hip hop techniques and routines.

Performance - Cheer

Cheer Performance Team is guided by the expertise of Coach Andrea. The sport of cheer teaches our athletes the value of commitment, teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity, self confidence, respect for self and others with a positive attitude.Cheer includes tumbling, motions, jumps, dance and stunting all learned and choreographed into a cheer routine. All routines will be choreographed by the coaches and decisions for stunt positions will be made only by the instructor.

This combination class introduces students to ballet techniques for young minds and Hip Hop concepts with a focus on musicality, flexibility, and coordination skills. We have found that this “combination” technique helps to keep our dancers excited, engaged, and focused for the entire class.

Core Conditioning

Dancers work on the fundamentals of technique, including strengthening, flexibility and stamina which is needed at the competitive level. We will work on proper form in their turns and leaps and more to properly build development of progressively advanced steps. Additionally, we will work on acro skills to enhance agility, strength, and to help incorporate tricks into choreography gracefully.

This class is for students with advanced experience that can execute a clean walkover, aerial and feel comfortable working on a handspring.
