About Next Step

Next Step dance studio, located in Evansville, Indiana, is a vibrant facility dedicated to fostering a passion for dance, cheer, and tumbling in students of all ages. Founded on a dream of sharing the joy of movement and building confidence, strength, and flexibility, Next Step has been a cornerstone of the community since its expansion to Evansville in 2011. The studio operates from a spacious 12,000 sq. ft. facility and offers a diverse range of classes, including foundational styles like Jazz, Tap, and Hip-Hop, alongside Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Acrobatics. Young learners can explore foundational jazz and tumbling in "Pre-School Dance" and "Combo Class: 20/20/20," while "Technique classes" focus on ballet barre and floor work for advanced dancers. Beyond dedicated dance forms, Next Step also provides "Drop-in Tumble" and "Non-Competitive Cheer" classes. Owner Jennifer Collins, a dancer since age three and an instructor since fourteen, established her first facility in 1999 and leads a team of accomplished instructors, including Dorothy Jacquemai, Olga Rodionova, and Kyle Rostan, who bring extensive performance and choreography expertise. The studio proudly offers both recreational dance programs and a competitive "Next Step Dance Company" and competitive cheer programs, which compete at regional and national levels. Next Step is committed to helping students believe in their dreams and themselves through dedicated training and performance opportunities.

Classes

Next Step Dance Company (Ages 3+)

Dance Company is the perfect opportunity to take your child’s love of dance to the next level. Dance Company is awarded through a try-out process and placed into the appropriate level based upon skill set. The Dance Company is required to take at least one-hour and a half hours of technique classes along with routine classes each week. Dance Company travels and competes at several regional and national competitions in a calendar year.

Technique classes (Ages 5+)

Focused on ballet barre, ballet floor and basic jazz technique. These classes are a wonderful way to increase your strength, flexibility and skill level.

Non-Competitive Cheer (Ages 3+)

This introductory course teaches your child basic cheerleading foundations-arm movements, jumps and tumbling. Your child will also learn and perfect a cheerleading routine that they will be able to perform during the annual Next Step Cheer Expo.

Performance Class (Ages 6+)

Does your child love to act and sing? Performance class works with children on vocal ability as well as improvisation, script interpretation and direction.

Drop-in Tumble (Ages 3+)

We offer tumbling classes throughout the week that your child can attend without a monthly commitment. During drop-in we will have instructors present to work at different stations with your child, depending on their skill level. This is a great option for busy families as well as children who want additional gym time.

Tap (Ages 3+)

Learn the fundamentals of tap dance. Students will also learn a routine that they will perform during recital.

Jazz (Ages 3+)

Learn the fundamentals of jazz dance. Students will also learn a routine that they will perform during recital.

Hip-Hop (Ages 7 +)

Learn the basic movements of hip-hop. Students will also learn a routine that they will perform during recital.

Combo Class: 20/20/20 (Ages 3 +)

This is a great introduction to dance and tumble. Your child will learn 20 minutes tap, 20 minutes jazz and then 20 minutes tumble. Your child will have the opportunity to showcase one routine during recital!

Pre-School Dance (Ages 3-4)

Take a class with your child! During this one-hour class your child will learn basic body placement, movements, and techniques of jazz dance as well as an introduction to tumbling. We also begin working on a routine that your child will perform during recital.
