About First City Dance Center

First City Dance Center, located in Leavenworth, Kansas, has been a distinguished institution for dance education since its founding as Deena Shroyer School of Dance in 1978. Under the experienced leadership of Annette Pfannenstiel, who succeeded the esteemed 40-year tenure of Deena Shroyer Price, the studio continues its rich legacy. Nestled in Historic Downtown Leavenworth, First City Dance Center offers a diverse range of classes for all ages, fostering coordination, rhythm, and a lifelong passion for movement. Youngest dancers, from 18 months to 5 years, can explore "Dance With Me," a playful parent-and-child experience, "Creative Movement" with foundational ballet steps, "KinderCombo" blending tap and jazz basics for ages 3-5, and "Little Acrobats" for pre-acro skill development. The studio provides professional instruction in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, and Acrobatics. The comprehensive ballet program begins with foundational levels for students as young as 8, progressing through intermediate and advanced pointe work, welcoming older beginners. Instructors, including Annette Pfannenstiel, Elizabeth Krebs, Rachel Grisi Dugan, Mallory Price, Hannah Gilbert, Karen Baker, and Katy Leute, bring diverse expertise. First City Dance Center emphasizes building well-rounded, hardworking dancers, focusing on both the mental and physical benefits of dance. The philosophy centers on having fun while instilling proper technique, a deep respect for the art form, and for one another, guided by the motto: Work Hard & Be Kind. Students have opportunities to showcase their progress through recital performances and participation in The Nutcracker.
