Classes

ADULT BALLET

Our ballet program for adults offers a dynamic blend of fitness and artistry. Participants experience improved flexibility and strengthened core muscles through elegant movements and precise techniques. Whether you're a beginner or returning dancer, it's a fun and rewarding way to stay fit while exploring the grace and discipline of ballet.

Levels 7 and 8

These classes are appropriate for advanced students aspiring towards a career in dance. Students continue to work on classical technique, accents and multiple turns and complex jumps as well as continuing to develop their artistry for the stage. Some technique classes are conducted en pointe , per the instructor. Pas de Deux classes will be included in the curriculum, if at all possible. Students are promoted to the student company.

PRE-PROFESSIONAL BALLET

These classes are appropriate for advanced students aspiring towards a career in dance. Students continue to work on classical technique, accents and multiple turns and complex jumps as well as continuing to develop their artistry for the stage. Most classes are conducted en pointe, per the instructor. Pas de Deux classes will be included in the curriculum.

Level 6

Students continue to work on the proper execution of their technique and work on building their extensions, strength, speed and stamina. Increased pointe work at this level, students may be asked to wear their pointe shoes for some technique classes. Higher extensions are focused on while keeping proper placement, increased adagio work. Developing artistry and conviction of movement (accents, phrasing).

Level 5

New goals include improving the proper execution of multiple pirouettes, increasing speed musicality and proper phrasing of ballet technique

Level 4

The exercises on this level aim to develop and strengthen proper alignment of the back, arms, legs and head. Accuracy during petit allegro combinations, longer Adagios and multiple turns, with more emphasis on grand allegro. Lengthening the body and being able to split the legs and articulate the feet. Students may start pointe work at this level. Students will continue to develop their ballet vocabulary.

INTERMEDIATE BALLET

Students are challenged to concentrate while using proper alignment of the back, arms, legs and head. Students will begin more complex petit allegro combinations and multiple turns, with more emphasis on grand allegro.

Level 3

Students begin to add more to their ballet vocabulary while continuing to develop their material learned from Levels 1 and 2. The exercises in this class are longer and more complex. The exercises begin to work on the transfer of weight and the enhancement of strength in order to execute steps both at barre and center like développé and pirouettes. Students will also advance in their understanding of petit and grand allegro movements while finding the ballon in jumps.

Level 2

Students continue to develop and perfect basic technical exercises in the classical vocabulary. The exercises in the class begin to develop stamina and enhance the strength of the students. Classes begin in coordination with Level 1 but include longer barre exercises. Students experience exercises that work on alignment, flexibility, and proprioception while integrating more jumps and diagonal based movements. Students will continue to develop their ballet vocabulary in this level.

Level 1

Students advance from the primary levels to being introduced to the basics of ballet technique with development of the body positions of the arms and legs. The exercises in this class emphasize placement, proper alignment, and posture. Students work on developing their muscles to be able to execute the proper technical steps. Most of the barre work is done facing the barre with two hands and the exercises in center work on balance, flexibility, and coordination. Students will develop their ballet vocabulary.

ELEMENTARY BALLET

Classes learn classic ballet basics starting with the body positions. Emphasis on placement, proper alignment and posture. Most of the barre work is done with two hands on the barre.

Pre-Ballet

The emphasis in Pre-Ballet is on rhythm, dynamic, and placement. Students will explore spatial awareness, correct alignment, teamwork, and focus while having fun. They will learn formalized steps and classroom etiquette which prepares them for the next level and beyond for more serious ballet training.

Creative Movement

The focus for Creative Movement is finding joy in moving. We will explore different movements and musicality to enhance the natural development of each child’s locomotor skills and strength. We will use children’s literature, games, props, and imaginative ideas for total body movements and mind engagements.

45 minutes once a week
Adult Open Classes

Adult Open Classes cater to adults seeking to engage in dance, yoga, or pilates. Students may wear any comfortable athletic wear appropriate for these activities, with ballet shoes recommended for optimal practice.

Sayre School Classes

Sayre School Classes are tailored for students attending Sayre School, offering dedicated dance instruction within the school's program. Any black leotard brand or style is acceptable, ensuring adherence to a specific dress code.

Ashland Elementary Classes

Ashland Elementary Classes provide dance instruction specifically for students at Ashland Elementary. Participants are allowed to wear comfortable clothes or any leotard or shorts, prioritizing ease of movement during class.

Open Classes
