Dance Quarter, located in the vibrant heart of New Orleans, Louisiana, invites dancers of all levels to explore a rich tapestry of movement and expression. This dynamic studio offers a diverse array of dance experiences, catering to various interests and skill levels. Students can immerse themselves in the rhythmic intricacies of Latin dances like Salsa (both On1 and On2 styles), Bachata, and Samba, with Deidra noted for her Samba instruction. Brazilian Zouk

Swing

Swing is an umbrella term for a group of social dances that developed with swing jazz music in the 1920s through 1940s. These include Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, Charleston, and Balboa. an intro to swing or basics class will cover 6 and 8 count patterns and will give you a foundation to continue into other swing dances.

Samba

Samba is great for fitness, Especially for the legs, glutes and core. In our Samba classes you’ll learn its unique footwork, hip movements and body rolls in a slow and fast pace. Samba will keep you on your toes!.

Salsa on2

Salsa on 2 is social Latin dance popular in New York and elsewhere where the initial movement falls on the second count, allowing for different patterns and accents to occur.

Salsa on1

Salsa is a social Latin dance originating in the Caribbean. Danced to old and new Salsa music, it incorporates stylistic flair, spins, fancy footwork, with the initial movement falling on the first count.

Lindy Hop

Lindy Hop originated in Harlem in the 1920s and 1930s and developed alongside swing jazz. It incorporates a swing out, or breakaway, and can be used in conjunction with other swing styles.

Kizomba

Kizomba is a close-embrace partner dance from the Portuguese-speaking African nation of Angola. Think tango with an African flair. Beautiful, slow, elegant, and stylish, dancers get hooked by its focus on musicality and connection.

LEVEL UP

LEVEL UP is a fitness class that uses choreographed dance routines to get the most out of a workout. The element of fun and the driving music is what makes the class popular with fitness enthusiasts. This is a high-energy, hip hop and pop fitness class. level up Prep breaks down the routines. In a standard Dance Trance class, there is no instruction, rather, students just follow along with the instructors.

Components of Salsa

Have you taken a salsa class series before but want to learn more moves? This class is a great way to learn new moves and practice tying them in to the salsa fundamentals you already know. Do you dance "On1" or "On2"? It won't matter. In this class we offer these salsa moves on both counts! Class level: Beginner/Intermediate. Previous salsa experience required.

Ballroom

Ballroom literally is rooted in the word ballare which means “to dance.” Ballroom styles and music are varied, and ballroom is divided into smooth and rhythm dances. Styles available include waltz, foxtrot, tango, rumba, cha cha, swing, samba, and bolero.

Bachata

Bachata is a Latin social dance which originated in the Dominican Republic. It is an 8 count dance which moves within a square. Footwork and embrace are key elements, as well as interpretation.

Argentine Tango

Argentine Tango is a Latin social dance which originated in the working class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. It is marked by a close embrace and dynamic lead/follow relationship between partners. The music is distinct, and includes orchestras from the Golden Age led by Troilo, Di Sarli, and Donato.

Zouk

Brazilian Zouk evolved from the partner dance known as the Lambada. The most characteristic feature of Brazilian Zouk is the follower's upper body movements which are led out of axis by intricate leading and following techniques. Other features include body isolations and tilted turns. It is a dance with well defined basic steps and rhythmic patterns and a dance that caters to creativity and improvisation.

Level Up

Level Up is a fitness class that uses choreographed dance routines to get the most out of a workout. It's hard to explain the level of enthusiasm for this class; we suggest that you come in and experience it for yourself! The element of fun and the driving music is what makes the class popular with fitness enthusiasts who may be bored with stepping up and down or dancing to the same type of music every night. Please note there is NO INSTRUCTION for this class; students follow along and keep moving the whole time. All skill levels welcome!

Kizomba

The word “Kizomba” means “celebration” or “party” in Kimbundu. Learn one of the most relaxing and smooth dances from Angola. This Kizomba class will focus on this mellow dance's music, movements, connection, and technique. Dancers of Argentinian Tango will notice certain connection similarities.

Intro to Salsa on2

New to salsa dancing? Or maybe you want to learn the “On2” count and already dance “On1”. This class will break down the New York Style (On2) of salsa dancing starting with the basics. We'll go over foundational steps, music and rhythms, and the mechanics of this social dance.

Intro to Salsa on1

This course is the perfect stepping stone for anyone looking to try their hand at learning salsa. Each week we'll focus on the foundational steps and moves that build salsa into the exciting dance it is. We'll cover footwork, partnerwork, and the basics of being on the social floor. Technique is a major focal point in class to help make your dancing smooth and comfortable for wherever you choose to go with it. No partner or experience necessary! (Class is taught "On1")

Samba with Dee

Sweat it out with the hot moves and dance flavours of Brazil, with Dee! Samba is great for fitness, specially for the legs, glutes and core. In our Samba classes you’ll learn its unique footwork, hips movement and body rolls in a slow and fast pace. Meet us on the dance floor! Samba will keep you on your toes! Deidra has been teaching dance professionally for over 20’years with an Overall 19 years of experience in Samba. She was able to mastered the art of samba dance while making it her own. Deidra was recruited to begin performing with a group professionally in early 2000. Throughout her years of performing professionally, Deidra learned how to Incorporate the promotion of physical fitness and healthy life choices throughout her dance training.

Salsa on2 Fundamentals

Basic Salsa on 2 NY style. In this class students will learn: -Salsa on2 technic -Basic Salsa on2 body movement. -Basic Salsa on2 shines (students will learn the level 1 syllabus shines. It contains 20 steps.) -Basic partner work turn combination.

Lindy Hop Intermediate/Advanced

Pre-requisite: You have taken our ‘Lindy Hop Fundamentals' class or an equivalent. You are comfortable with basic 6 count triple steps and single timing. You can lead or follow basic turns and patterns without thinking. You can also control spacing while dancing. No partner necessary.

Lindy Hop Fundamentals

Join Breonna and Gabriel to learn the basics of Lindy Hop. In this class we will build up on Swing dancing fundamentals. Here you will learn the original form of Swing: The Lindy Hop. This will include the swing out, the circle, common Charleston vocabulary, and a few other fun moves. We will also introduce the swivels for the follows.

Intro to Ballroom

Ballroom Rhythm Basics and Ballroom Smooth Basics- Do you want to become a versatile dancer? Do you want to be able to dance a Waltz at a wedding? Get sassy on the dance floor? Or dance any night of the week on Frenchmen Street? Then come learn the foundations of social dancing in Ballroom Basics. Whether you just dance in Nola, or you are a world traveler, you will be able to put these moves to work for you wherever you find yourself on a dance floor. Dances covered are East Coast Swing, American Tango, Rumba, Waltz, Foxtrot and Cha Cha. No experience necessary. No partner necessary.

Blues Dance Fundamentals

Blues dancing grew out of the African-American / Black community and is danced to blues music. Different variations grew from regional music styles. Blues is grounded and polyrhythmic, with pulse and improvisation being key to its look and feel. Join Gabriel and Stefanie to learn blues! No partner necessary.

NOLA ReBelles

Join our all-female performance troupe celebrating the 1920s, 1960s, turn of the 20th century with French Can Can and more. Les Rebelles of NOLA celebrate the women of New Orleans and connect them through dance regardless of age, shape and background. Unlike many other all female groups, we are a mix of pros and amateurs who help their members become the best they can be through dance. During our classes you will learn a choreography meant to be performed (performing is optional), socialize with a bunch of fun women but you will also improve your dance skills and get in shape. Our dance numbers celebrate the hard-core women who fought for women's rights and visit the different eras when significant progress was made towards La Liberation de la Femme…. Think 1920s Flapper, 1960s Gogo, turn of the Century French Cancan, etc. All that, with a French twist to it! Our Season goes from September-June. And there are 3 sessions/year.

Argentine Tango Introduction and Intermediate

Discover the beauty, passion, and elegance of tango. This progressive series covers the essential elements of Argentine Tango and is designed to quickly enable you to enjoy dancing at a tango social (milonga) and be able to improvise with any dance partner by providing in-depth explanation of the structure of the dance. It is suitable for both absolute beginners and experienced dancers wishing to refine their fundamentals or explore the opposite lead/follow role.

One of our favorite things about bachata dancing, is a true beginner and an experienced dancer can get on the dance floor and dance together! This ideology was used in creating this course structure! This course has been designed and implemented in a way that has been able to teach bachateros of ALL levels at the same time! Everyone in the class is sure to have fun, feel challenged, and leave accomplished! Each movement, footwork, and shine pattern is taught in AT LEAST 3 levels! This way, everyone is working on the same technique or skill, while learning how to implement them in ways that are new and challenging for them! Drop-Ins Accepted throughout the series.
