Our son (age 7) has been taking jazz & hip hop classes at Dance Place for a couple of years, and loves it. He has many classes/activities, but dance is the only one that he begs to attend. Every spring, his class participates in a recital; in the winter, he has the opportunity to take part in the Nutcracker.

Our Dance Team “On Broadway Dancers” was created to give dancers an opportunity to learn more choreography and have more performing opportunities. Our Dance Team is open to dancers in grades 3 and up and meets on Fridays (4:15 – 7:15) and Saturdays (3pm – 6pm). Dancers choose one day or the other to participate. Good attendance and level of commitment is required.

Musical Theater focuses on jazz technique with an additional focus on performance quality. Alongside developing technically, dancers will expand their knowledge of the genre of Musical Theater. Each week students will learn about influential musicals or choreographers, with focus ranging from the classic work of Jerome Robbins and Bob Fosse to current choreographers like Susan Stroman and Sonya Tayeh. Students will learn to combine their dance skills with storytelling and performance development, and a greater understanding of the genre as a whole.

A technique-focused class with basis in strengthening, improving control, optimizing flexibility and learning new skills. This class runs on a rotating schedule with alternating weeks focused on leaps, then the following week with a stronger focused on turns. Class is dancer-focused and dancer-driven in that the teacher will take suggestions or requests for new skills to work on based on skills that are choreographed into routine for recital/competition/solos/etc. This class is for any dancer who wants to strengthen their technique to grow across a wide variety of styles.

Dancers will explore the rhythms of tap, from the traditional time steps, paddle & rolls , and shim shams to the hard hitting rhythm tap sounds that have put tap back on the map recently.

Our jazz dance classes are taught in the traditional style of Jazz dance. Dancers will learn stretches to increase flexibility and many different jazz steps, turns, and combinations incorporated into choreography. A fun class set to current, upbeat and age appropriate music. Beginner classes will also explore hip hop and lyric styles of jazz.

Lyrical is a slower style of Jazz which combines elements of Ballet and Jazz based movements. This style of dance focuses on the emotion and story behind a particular piece of music. We use this style of dance to tell a story through our movements.

Modern dance is a takeoff from ballet and is another interpretive style of dance. Modern dance is strongly recommended for anyone seriously considering a dance career, as all college dance programs require modern dance.

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor.

Hip Hop classes combine street dance with funk and jazz, similar to what you would see in televised dance performances or music videos. Students will learn the importance of isolations and dynamics to execute pop-and-lock and funk movements. And… We are very proud to have such a wonderful boys Hip Hop program. We have several male Hip Hop teachers who are very active in the Boston dance community. They are wonderful role models for boys who wish to dance.

Ballet classes are offered from a beginner level to advanced. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre and center floor work, along with across the floor combinations. Beginner classes introduce vocabulary, proper alignment, and classical ballet technique. Advanced classes include adagio and allegro work, and combinations using balance, strength, and style. In addition Pointe is offered. All students are urged to study ballet, as it is the foundation of all other dance styles and facilitates further success in these disciplines.

This is a Ballet / Tap/ Jazz combo class. The dancers explore beginning Ballet, Tap and Jazz dancing. This is a fun, upbeat class that suits the attention span of this age. This class performs two routines in our year end performance.

A fun acro dance class for ages 4-5. We will work on strength, balance and coordination while also learning basic acro skills – bridges, somersaults, handstands, cartwheels and much more.

This is our ballet / tap combo class. Dancers continue to learn age appropriate dance steps and concepts, and incorporate these into creative dance activities and choreography. This class is 45 minutes of ballet and 15 minutes of tap. This class performs one routine in our year end performance.

In Little Feet dancers will explore many ways to move their bodies. They learn basic dance steps and movement skills through storytelling, song & dance, and dancing with fun props such as scarves, ribbons, bean bags and hula hoops. This class performs one routine in our year end performance.

A fun and engaging dance class for our youngest movers and their caregivers. This class combines creative movement, dancing with props and storytelling to introduce these children to dance and help develop balance, gross motor skills. This class does not participate in our year end performance.

We will explore music and dancing from a Ballet, Broadway Musical and Movie Musical. There will be dancing in a variety of styles featuring music from each show as well as crafts from each show. We will also watch video selections of each performance.

Cue the paparazzi and get ready to shine like a star in Marquee Mix-Up: Movie Magic! Dancers will explore the magic of our fave movie musicals: The Greatest Showman, Newsies, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, while learning musical theater, jazz, and hip hop! Your dancing movie stars will create their own sets and props to prepare for their big premiere where they will walk the red carpet and showcase a fabulous performance from each of these movie musicals! Dancers will also shine on the big screen when they star in their very own mini-movie featuring their magical dance moves!

Performance opportunity for students ages 4 and up, with rehearsals held on Saturdays or Sundays for 6-7 weeks from October to December. Sign-ups are at the end of September.

Your young witches and wizards will dive into their studies of spells, potions, and of course, dance moves to earn their Brightfeather school crest upon graduation day! Dancers will experience an extraordinary week of jazz and hip hop moves while sharpening their spellbinding skills to earn their badges in a variety of magical moves. This fanciful, danciful dance camp will take dancers through the most tres, tres chic mouse house in all the land... toasted friends with cupcakes and tea in the dazzling dining room, going all glitz and-glam playing dress-up in the massive mouse insta closet and shimmering under the disco ball at the playroom pizzazz dance floor! In their most fanciest dancing-est fun and marvelous mouse-tastic crafts, this ballet, tap and creative movement camp is perfect for all sassy and classy kids who love Minnie, Mickey, Daisy and friends!

Raise your paws if you love Paw Patrol and Secret Life of Pets because you'll PAWSitively love this fun tap, ballet and creative movement dance camp! Tiny dancers can bring their favorite stuffed pet (dog, cat, character, anything goes!) and together they'll unleash the fun on four PURRfect dancing adventures: The Paws & Claws Pet Spa, Pet PAWrade, Museum of Pet PAWtraits and the Disco Dance Pawty! All pets stop along the way, the dancers will dance together and earn paw prints in their Pet PAWfolios. This dance PAWty will be a fun time... FUR real!

Your petite dancer will love dancing through the pink sky to Pom Pom Unicorn's Magical Carnival on a Cloud! Tiny dancers will climb the sparkly rainbow and soar through the Cotton Candy Clouds as magical unicorns in this sweet ballet and tap dance camp! This magical camp is full of all things unicorn, dancing, carnival games, glittery crafts and even Rainbow Rewards (aka fun prizes)! It's sure to be a magical time!
