Intensive Program

Massachusetts Dance Academy’s competitive and pre-professional team gives dancers the opportunity to progress their dance training in a challenging, yet nuturing environment. Dancers have the opportunity to compete in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop, musical theater and acro. Competition team dancers have additional performance opportunities at competitions, conventions and community events! They also have the opportunity to advance their training and performance skills by working with guest artists and master teachers. Older competitive dancers mentor our younger dancers and all participants are a part of a team of friends that build lasting friendships. Massachusetts Dance Academy’s Competition Team and Pre- Professional program are so much more than just great dancing! We provide students with a well rounded, fun and exciting educational experience. We believe dance lessons teach life lessons! Dancers are taught the understanding of what being committed to a team means, respect for others, self-discipine, responsibility, dedication, time management, and being prepared. Contemporary (Ages 10 and Up)

Contemporary is an expressive style of dance that incorporates elements of modern, jazz and classical ballet. Dancers will focus on changes in rhythm, direction and speed as well as improvisation skills.

Musical Theater (Ages 10 and Up)

Musical Theater is the dance style most notably seen on broadway. Dancers will learn to communicate characters and stories through dance choreography. Classes incorporate acting and jazz styles with a focus on enhancing confidence and stage presence.

Hip Hop (Ages 10 and Up)

Hip hop is an urban dance style that is done to hip hop music. This is a fun and high energy dance form that has grown in popularity. Students explore the freedom of movement and develop rhythm, coordination, and musicality. Age appropriate music is always selected for every level.

Acro (Ages 10 and Up)

Acro combines classical dance with acrobatic moves. Acro teaches flexibility, strength, balance, muscle control, concentration and discipline.

Jazz Dance (Ages 10 and Up)

Jazz dance includes high energy classes that allow dancers to step outside their comfort zone. Dancers learn leaps, turns, kicks, and jumps, as well as other jazz technique. In jazz classes, students learn to incorporate style to their movement and develop strength, stamina, and flexibility.

Tap (Ages 10 and Up)

Tap is a percussive form of dance using the feet. Tap shoes are worn to produce sound through movement. Classes focus on rhythm, precision and musicality. Students will develop coordination and a great sense of rhythm.

Pointe is offered to students by teacher recommendation. Students must take a minimum of two ballet classes a week to be considered for pointe.

Ballet is the foundation for all dance genres. Classes are designed to build strong technique that is essential to other dance forms. Students will be educated and challenged to continually grow and develop their technique and vocabulary. Ballet classes will also develop proper body alignment, strength, flexibility, grace, balance, poise, and musicality. As students become advanced, pointe work may be incorporated.

Classics Program (Ages 10 and Up)

Our Classics Program is for boys and girls ages 7-18. This program is desgined as an outlet for students who are just beginning dance or who wish to continue their studies. These classes may be combination classes where the student will be exposed to more than one dance form. Students will learn dance technique in a fun enviroment, and develop a sense of self-esteem, and teamwork, as they become confident in their abilities. Dancers look forward to dancing in our recital at the end of the season.

Dance, Act and Sing in this class! Students will learn and explore a variety of musicals and practice performing.

Tumbling Skills (Ages 7 to 9)

This class focuses on mastering basic tumbling skills and progressing to the next skill. Students will develop flexibility, strength, and balance all while experiencing joy and gaining a sense of accomplishment.

Urban Dance Style (Hip Hop) (Ages 7 to 9)

This funky fast paced class teaches urban dance style to hip hop music. Students will explore the freedom of movement and build self confidence. Age appropriate music is always used.

Jazz Technique (Ages 7 to 9)

This high energy class teaches jazz technique. Dancers will learn leaps, kicks, and jumps. They will also learn how to incorporate style to their movement all while developing strength, stamina, and flexibility.

Tap (Ages 7 to 9)

This class teaches the steps and sequences of tap. Students will focus on rhythm, vocabulary and musicality.

Beginning Technique (Ages 7 to 9)

Our Tutus and Bowties class introduces ballet technique to young dancers. Students will experience the joy of ballet as they learn basic ballet steps and vocabulary.

Infant & Tot

Classes designed for early learning and discovery with the help of a parent or caregiver. These fun filled classes involve movement activities with many fun props. It is an excellent opportunity for children to explore movement and music as they achieve new milestones. Infants and tots will make new friends in a fun and learning environment. Parents and caregivers will be there to see their child make new discoveries, and celebrate every new achievement and moment with them.

Toddler and Caregiver Dance Class (Ages 15 to 35 Months)
