Shannon Irish Dance Academy, located in Rochester Hills, Michigan, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich tradition of Irish dance and music. Led by Owner & Artistic Director Sophia Schoch-Wyzgowski, TCRG, and Owner & Director of Nugent Irish Dance Miss Katie Nugent Gerhard, TCRG, the academy provides a comprehensive program for all ages, from preschoolers to adults. Their accomplished and certified instructors, including Miss Mary Kate Hastings and Associate Director Miss Hillary Snook, foster coordination, self-esteem, and social skills through engaging classes. Specialized programs like 'Jump’n Jig' cater to young children, while beginners aged 6-17 learn the fundamentals of soft shoe dances like the Reel and Light Jig. Adult programs encompass both recreational and competitive opportunities, delving into solo and group (Ceili) dancing. Students can master various soft and hard shoe styles including the Slip Jig, Hornpipe, and Traditional Set, alongside elements of Irish language, history, and music. The academy also offers competitive Irish dance teams and performance groups like the Shannon Irish Dance Company and 'An Irish Nutcracker'. Recognizing the synergy between music and movement, the academy's musicians perform with the Shannon Irish Dance Performance Company. Students benefit from learning from accomplished musicians and participating in traditional music sessions. Beyond Irish dance, Shannon Irish Dance Academy also offers classes in Ballet and Tap, providing a well-rounded dance education.
