Classes

TAP

Tap is a 30-minute or a 45-minute class that is offered for students 5 to 18 years old. This is a percussive style of dancing. Its name comes from the tapping sound made when the metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touches a hard surface. Tap is a great way to encourage rhythm and musicality.

PRE BALLET

This is a 45 minute class for students 5-6 years old. Basic ballet skills, terminology, rhythm, and coordination are taught, practiced, and developed through creative movement, music, and mime in a supportive and supervised environment.

POINTE

Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. It is said the a dancer is to be en pointe when the dancer's body is supported in this manner, and a fully extended vertical foot is said to be en pointe when touching the floor, even when not bearing weight. Musical Theater is a 45-minute class for students 8 to 18 years old, which incorporates a combination of Jazz and acting. With this style of dance, you are working through Jazz technique while portraying a character. Using songs from Broadway, we focus on bringing out our inner actor/actress!

MOMMY AND ME

This is a 45 minute class designed to develop coordination skills, listening skills, balance, music interpretation, creative movement and motor development in the youngest dancers, ages 18 months -3. This program is an excellent introduction to the world of dance and lots of fun for Mom and dancer as Mom will also participate in class with the dancer! This is also a great class to encourage a strong relationship between Mother and child.

MODERN

A form of dance that emerged in the early 20th century out of defiance of Ballet. Centered around pedestrian movements and concepts of fall & recover, contract & release and push & pull, Modern Dance reflects & challenges Art, Philosophy, and Current Issues. Modern is the polar opposite of ballet. While ballet focuses on symmetry, poise and lift form the core; modern works on asymmetry, a connection to the ground and body contractions. There are many Modern techniques and your child will explore many including Graham and Horton.

LYRICAL

JAZZ

HIP HOP

Although Hip Hop’s roots came from urban street dancing, it has become increasingly popular in the entertainment world. There are many styles of Hip Hop and your child will explore and learn these styles.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floor work, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet.
