About Light of the World Ballet

Light of the World Ballet, located in Syracuse, New York, offers a comprehensive and faith-based dance education for students of all ages. Founded by Ashley Rollinson Sunada, the studio is dedicated to nurturing talent across a diverse range of dance styles, including classical Ballet, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Tap, and Lyrical dance. Our program emphasizes rigorous classical technique, with specialized training in pointe work, pas de deux, and conditioning, alongside opportunities to explore Modern dance. Students benefit from the expertise of a accomplished faculty, including Ashley Rollinson Sunada, Alyssa Ishizu, Cayla Noreau Hsu, Hannah Henninger, Angela Mia Bravo, Timothy Downing, Tiffani Downing, and Emilie Magnosi. We foster a nurturing environment where students develop technical proficiency, self-discipline, and confidence. Special programs like the "Light of the World Youth Ballet" (by invitation only) and the Light of the World Ballet Company provide advanced performance opportunities. Our philosophy integrates spiritual development, incorporating biblical principles and Bible study into advanced classes. Throughout the year, students participate in Christmas and Spring shows, and we offer a unique Summer Dance Outreach program (July 12-24, 2026 for ages 10-19) and a Jr. Summer Dance Outreach (July 27-31, 2026 for ages 7-10), alongside a Summer Ballerina Camp (July 27-31, 2026 for ages 3-10). An Emerging Artist Program (ages 14-22) further develops technique and artistry. Company members engage in mission trips and international outreach, sharing joy and love through movement, embodying excellence both internally and externally.

Emerging Artist Program

Technique takes endless time and effort, but one also needs to develop their artistry to thrive as a dancer and enhance their technique. Christians know that loving God means engaging with their whole selves- body, mind, and soul. We want to help Christian dancers connect their spiritual lives, artistry, and technique through our new Emerging Artist Program: Developing the whole dancer.

Follow the North Star Ballet

This ballet is a biographical sketch of Harriet Tubman while also being an excellent historical account of the Underground Railroad. The ballet begins with Tubman’s own journey to freedom and ends with her leading a group on the Underground Railroad to freedom. The ballet also conveys the message that once we find freedom we can be like Harriet Tubman and go back to help others enter freedom. Using descriptive music, narration, characters, and costumes students will be drawn into an open history book.

Ana’s Battle Ballet

This story addresses issues of self-esteem and identity. Ana’s Battle has been received well by all school ages. It exemplifies how important it is to identify which thoughts are true and to know who you are in order to win the battle of negative influences. Students will also see the negative affect their words have on others. This ballet addresses issues of bullying and self esteem.

You Are Special Ballet

You Are Special, especially for younger children, is a ballet based on the story by Max Lucado. This story shows that though you may have been ‘labeled’, the label should not define who you are. It also reinforces the fact that one should not label others. This ballet addresses issues of bullying and self esteem. Some schools purchase the book for the students & the school library prior to our presentation.

The Dance Performance component

The Dance Performance component exposes students to professional level performances while introducing them to the art of classical ballet. The stories performed are shaped to provide another dimension of instruction to help students learn to make responsible decisions.
