HIPPITY HOP/ACRO

This is a fun creative movement class with a dash of acro, hip hop, and swag for your tiny dancers to become comfortable & confident on the dance floor. This class combines age-appropriate hip-hop moves to upbeat music and tumbling.

Young dancers will learn the basic ballet steps while learning how to follow directions and imitate movement and gross motor skill development games in a positive and fun environment.

DANCE & TUMBLE

This offers young children an introduction to the fundamentals of tumbling that will provide the building blocks necessary for their potential development in dance and overall fitness. By learning the benefits of flexibility, balance, strength, and body control inherent in all aspects of tumbling, your child will be better equipped to safely enjoy and excel in all of his or her future athletic endeavors.

Creative Movement and Dance Discovery

Dance and Tumble

PRE-BALLET/PRE-JAZZ

The focus of all Preschool classes is to foster a love for dance and learning. This usually is the first experience in a dance class with a teacher and other students; therefore, etiquette such as listening, following instructions, and being respectful to others is emphasized. Pre-ballet fundamentals and exercises are taught to increase creativity, flexibility, concentration, and focus, providing an early foundation for continued dance education.

STRENGTH & FLEXIBILITY

Flexibility, muscular awareness, and proper stretch techniques are the basics of this course. Dancers will learn how to stretch without injury and develop an understanding of how to deepen their flexibility.

CONDITIONING

For dancers looking to improve overall strength to help with dance skills such as leaps, jumps, and more. Dancers will use stretching techniques and conditioning exercises while incorporating strengthening movements to help build proper muscle strength and coordination needed for dance.

TURNS AND LEAPS

The Turns and Leaps class dissects these two technical movements by breaking down basic building blocks and fine-tuning techniques so one can master a variety of turns and leaps which are used choreography. Great emphasis will be placed on the body’s center, from which all movements begin and end, making it possible to maintain balance and control while executing turns, high extensions and powerful leaps. Enrollment in Technique or Ballet is highly encouraged.

HIP-HOP

Hip-hop dance is a street dance that evolved from hip-hop culture and includes a range of styles, such as breaking, popping, and locking. Hip-hop is very dynamic and helps dancers develop body balance and coordination while also improving flexibility.

TAZZICAL

Tazzical is a combination of Musical Theatre and Tap. Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style, and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm Tap. Exercises focus on building coordination, speed of movement, and sound. Will teach stage presence and acting, with a focus on learning song-and-dance numbers from a variety of musical productions.

LYRICAL

This class is a combination of ballet and jazz that challenges dancers to use choreography and movement to interpret music and express emotion. Dancers learn to express emotions derived from lyrics to convey the dance’s meaning. These classes introduce students to the styles of both genres and the method in which they are combined while understanding the performance aspects of lyrical.

JAZZ

The class includes traditional jazz techniques emphasizing rhythm, stylization, isolation, and proper alignment. You will build strength, stamina, and fluidity.

MODERN

The class explores the fundamental concepts of modern technique through anatomical awareness, alignment, spatial awareness, increased strength, and developing sensibilities addressing movement quality. Utilizing the full body and incorporating the use of body imagery in floor work, across the floor, and combinations.

ACRO

Acro (acrobatics/tumbling) is centered on fundamental acrobatic techniques to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, and control. Placement is based on skills, and students must complete the required skill sets before advancing to the next level.

CONTEMPORARY TRICKS

This dynamic focuses on integrating acrobatic elements and innovative movements into contemporary dance. This is an intermediate/advanced level class. Students must be in Acro 3/4 or higher, or have approval from the teacher.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. The class is dynamic and dramatic, develops both strength and flexibility, and works with an energy that is constantly in motion. Prior dance experience is recommended and you must be able to pick up and retain new choreography quickly, as the class is very fast-paced and will cover new topics every week.

TECHNIQUE

Students will work on proper alignment, strength, flexibility, understanding of body awareness, and mobility to help improve their execution of leaps, turns, jumps, and other dance skills/tricks. Dancers will learn proper stretching techniques, and conditioning exercises and incorporate strengthening movements to help build proper muscle strength and coordination needed for dance. The class will incorporate drills, exercises, across-the-floor combinations, floor work, and more to train and develop further in technical skills and ability.

POINTE

Pointe requires strength, proper knowledge of ballet terminology, and correct execution of ballet movement. Dancers are required to take several ballet classes in order to participate in this class.

PRE-POINTE

Being on pointe is a very advanced ballet skill and should only be done under strict supervision, as pointe work can be dangerous if attempted too early or with poor instruction. It is a privilege and commitment, and dancers will only be invited when they are physically, emotionally, and mentally ready. It is highly recommended that the student take 3 ballet classes and pre-pointe in order to be considered for pointe.

BALLET

The Studio One ballet educational program consists of Pre-School, Studio, and Pre-Professsional divisions. The goal is to encourage and promote physical, mental, emotional, psychological, and artistic development and well-being. The environment is nurturing yet challenging, and teachers are directed to deliver their instruction by seeking a useful balance between new and challenging material. It is one of the most effective and elegant ways of improving posture, grace, flexibility, and strength. It is considered to be an excellent foundation for many other forms of dance. Ballet placement is based on skill and knowledge.
