Lyrical is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet, jazz, & contemporary dance techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics in the chosen song.

A very trendy and popular dance form. Hip Hop is a fun street style of dance that is high energy, bouncy and funky. Your child will learn body control and rhythm to upbeat funky and fun music.

A classic yet exciting and challenging form of dance. Our Tap dancers learn classic, fancy footwork to the fun and modern music of today. Tap teaches rhythm, sound, and timing. Let's face it, every Taper young and old, loves to hear the sound of their own Tap shoes on the hard wood floor!

A Broadway style dance that is upbeat and energetic. Classic in roots, Jazz dance has evolved into many dance forms all rapped up in one name. Our Jazz classes teach rhythm, flexibility, jumps, kicks, and turns all too trendy music of today.

The foundation of all dance. Ballet teaches body placement, alignment, balance, technique and control. Our Ballet classes are classical, traditional Ballet that starts with the skills needed to progress to advanced ballet as early as our Tumblerina program. NorthStar Dance Center now offers Pre-Pointe Ballet as well as Beginner Pointe classes.

One of our most popular classes! Acrobatic Arts is a high energy class that starts at the very beginning introducing proper placement and technique so students have the building blocks to progress safely and quickly from one level to the next. Each of the ten levels include 28 skills encompassing elements of flexibility, strength, balanace, limbering and tumbling for the promotion of excellence in tumbling and dancing. This awesome program will develop strength and flexibility in each tumbler helping to eliminate the possibility of injury. Acrobatic Arts teaches all forms of floor tumbling that will give your child the necessary building blocks for dance, gymnastics, cheerleading and fitness.

Our Pre-K Acro class follows the same curriculum as our school aged Acro classes. This 30 minute class is packed full of the beginner skills dancers need to be successful in our Acroarts program. Skills learned will include pre-cartwheels/cartwheels, handstands, forward roll skills, bridges, and balance skills. In addition to the skills learned they will also be introduced to the importance of stretching and building strength. Why only 30 minutes? While the students are aged 4-5 the class is packed full of skills. Sometimes this is their first introduction to a class that focuses on one discipline. In our experience we find the 30 minute class is the perfect amount of time to introduce them to acroarts and maximize their attention spans.

Pre-K Hip Hop provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun filled and vibrant class environment. Hip Hop classes utilize upbeat music from various genres, in addition to the latest Hip Hop hits. The resulting outcome is an energetic class that not only teaches you Hip Hop movements and technique, but also instills rhythm and precision in your muscle memory. Why only 30 minutes? Our pre-k hip hop class is 30 minutes packed with fun upbeat music. In our experience the fast pace of this class is best kept to 30 minutes. This helps build up their confidence and endurance and prepares them for a longer class in the future.

A 45 minute dance & tumbling class containing ballet, creative movement and tumbling. Dancers will learn beginner steps of ballet and tumbling skills such as Rolls, Cartwheels, Handstands, ballet positions, etc. Just like our other classes th e use of fun, age appropriate music engages the young dancers’ minds and bodies.

An age specific 45 minute class containing ballet, tap and creative movement. The purpose of the class is to introduce young dancers to the styles of dance and inspire movement and creativity within a positive environment. Dancers will also learn basic steps and terminology in both styles. For example, all dancers will learn what a “plie” is and how to demonstrate one. The use of fun, age appropriate music engages the young dancers’ minds and bodies.

This 30 minute class is a fun and creative introductory class where children learn creative movement, gross motor and classroom skills such as standing in line and taking turns. Dancers will practice various gross motor skills like jumping, skipping and balancing, as well as fine motor skills with engaging toys like balls and beanie babies. Fun music activities are incorporated to introduce the positions of dance and tumbling. Tiny Tot dancers will learn how to work well with others and improve listening and classroom skills. Why only 30 minutes? Through years of experience we find that 30 minutes for 2 year olds is the perfect introductory length to a class to ensure optimal attention spans.

Our pre-k program is designed with specific ages in mind. We have age specific classes for 2, 3, 4 and 5 year olds. There is a huge difference between the abilities of 2 and 5 year olds. Our classes meet those needs by being tailored to the capabilities of each age group.
