Conceived by Gene Leyden and Suzee Grilley, it has evolved into a versatile venue for dance, music, and theatre events. Since 2013, Brooke Friendly has led dance space, cultivating a vibrant atmosphere for dancers of all levels. Brooke, a dancer for over 40 years and an instructor of British Isles dance since 1982, leads community dance classes, including contra, barn, and family dances, as well as classes for the SOU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The studio boasts an impressive 1800 square feet, featuring a spacious 1000-square-foot oak, sprung dance floor, complete with air-conditioning, a full wall of mirrors, and high ceilings. Beyond its exceptional dance floor, dance space offers tiered seating for up to 80 individuals and a versatile crossover wall, transforming the space into an intimate theater setting ideal for performances. The studio is available for hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly rentals. Dance space offers diverse movement experiences including Intermediate Modern Dance with instructor Liz Finnegan, Hip Hop Flow for ages 14+ with Cyrise Schachter, English and Scottish Country Dance through Ashland Country Dancers, and Nia, a sensory-based fitness practice. Dance space aims to foster a supportive and joyful environment for all, providing opportunities for individuals to discover and develop their passion for various dance forms, contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of Ashland.

Experience the mythopoetics of fitness and healing with Nia Black Belt and physical therapist Rachael R. Resch. Love Your Body, Love the Body of the World. All bodies • All levels • Drop-ins welcome Nia is a sensory-based fitness and self-healing practice that cross-trains body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Nia blends nine specific movement forms from dance, martial arts, and healing arts – like modern dance, Tai Chi and yoga. Come dance, laugh, kick, shake, stretch, and play with us!

Intermediate Modern Dance with Liz Finnegan

Liz Finnegan has a BFA in Modern Dance as well as training in Ballet and Jazz. Her class is designed for the seasoned dancer, with a performance background, who may want a weekly class to stay in shape, learn new choreography, and meet other dancers.

Hip Hop Flow with Cyrise Schachter

Hip Hop Flow is a fun and funky way to dig into beginning/intermediate hip hop choreography and get a great workout. We start with a warm up and a stretch then learn a choreography that we stay with for a few weeks, building and adding on but teaching it slowly from the beginning in each class. The more you come to class the quicker it sinks in and before you know it you are off and dancing!! The only rule is to HAVE FUN finding your rhythm and flow in this supportive and diverse community of dancers.
