Classes

Theatrical Jazz

Miss Brittany of Keystone Ballet Academy will be teaching a jazz dance style known today as “Theatrical Jazz,” based on two of her most inspiring classic jazz dance artists, choreographers, and founders of “Theatrical Jazz” - Gus Giordano and Bob Fosse.

Jazz Dance Level 1

Students studying ballet for 2 or more years take Jazz Dance Level 1. Students taking jazz class are required to take at least one ballet class per week.

Jazz Classes

Students in Pre-Ballet have jazz as part of a Ballet/Jazz Combo class. Students studying ballet for 2 or more years take Jazz Dance Level 1. Students taking jazz class are required to take at least one ballet class per week.

Tap Classes

Tap dancing is great for rhythm, timing and counting. It will improve balance and memorizing patterns. Tap classes are the perfect dance class to complement ballet. All tap classes are taught in a progressive manner beginning with single tap sounds and advancing to two and three tap sounds. Students are taught the proper way to hold their legs and strike the floor. We teach a Jazz-Tap style which is used in musical theatre.

Pre-Ballet

Pre-ballet classes for ages 6-8 are a wonderful introduction to the world of dance. Blending basic ballet technique in a fun and nurturing environment, this early exposure to ballet not only enhances physical development but also boosts self-confidence and artistic expression, laying a strong foundation for future dance education. Pre-Ballet classes focus on developing fundamental skills such as balance, coordination, and flexibility, while also fostering a sense of rhythm and musicality.

Kinder-Barre

Ballet classes for ages 4-5 introduce your child to the world of dance. The class combines fun and foundational skill-building in a highly motivated setting. Children participate in a floor warm-up and stretch followed by basic technique drills. Natural movements in skipping, hopping and galloping help to develop their coordination. Kinder-Barre classes foster social skills, discipline, and creativity, as young dancers interact with their peers and follow instructions from their teacher.

Jazz

Students in Pre-Ballet or Ballet 1 may be introduced to jazz dance as part of a Ballet/Jazz Combo class. Students studying ballet for 2 or more years take Jazz Dance Level 1. Students taking jazz class are required to also be enrolled in at least one ballet class per week.

Pointe

Dancing in pointe shoes is the dream and goal of many students in ballet class. Dancing on pointe is quite different than dancing in flat ballet shoes. With proper training, correctly fitted pointe shoes, and the guidance and care of an experienced ballet teacher, we hope to make it a well-remembered and cherished experience.

Keystone Ballet Academy offers a comprehensive training program in classical ballet unique to the Greater Hazleton Area. Beginner students in Ballet 1 will develop a fundamental technique vocabulary while training the body to build strength, flexibility, coordination and musicality. Students on a path to study pointe are required to take classes 2X a week in Ballet 1, Ballet 2, and Ballet 3.

Pre-Ballet

Ages 3-4 will explore movement in a fun and lively environment while practicing coordination movements and learning classroom etiquette. This class is designed to create a love of movement and is given in 5-week sessions in the summer, 6-week sessions in the fall, winter, and spring.

Classical Ballet, Tap and Jazz

Keystone Ballet Academy offers classical ballet, tap and jazz classes. Our ballet technique training is based on Vaganova technique. We use a progressive syllabus, which allows every student to learn the fundamentals of classical dance, focusing on technique, grace, and strength while they improve at their own pace. All students learn proper technique in a positive and fun environment with easy-to-understand class instruction and individual corrective guidance.

Beginner Ballet - Level A1 for Teens & Adults

Have you always wanted to dance? Here is your chance to start from the very beginning! We offer this class over the regular school year from September to June. Level A-1 is the first of a 2-Level beginner ballet program. When ready you move up to Level A-2. As you progress you join in our regular Intermediate B Levels. Teens and adults can also learn pointe. This class is for students ages 12 - adult. The class gives you the foundations of classical ballet for people interested in studying ballet. You choose if you would like to be in our Spring Dance Concert! No prior dance experience is necessary, and modifications are given for those with a physical limitation. Please do not wear loose clothing. Any yoga clothing will be good to wear to class. Hair must be secured off the face. We sell the required ballet shoes. We recommend a sports bra. September to June
Ballet 4

Intermediate Ballet Level 2 continues working on the steps taught at the previous levels to combine them into complex combinations with more coordination of the head, arm and body. Jumps are higher, multiple turns are drilled, preparation for advanced technique concepts are explored. Students on track for pointe that passed a “Pointe Readiness Test” will begin the year with pre-pointe and continue in the Spring with their first pair of pointe shoes. Students will be at this level for 2 years.

Ballet 3

Advanced Beginner Ballet 3 uses the foundations established in Ballet 1 and Ballet 2 so the student begins to learn more complex movements of the technique while gaining strength and agility. Combinations are longer both at the barre and in the center as the technique becomes more detailed in direction and musicality. Steps and movements begin to include the arms and head. The introduction of new movements is taught in a progressive manner and practiced as drills.

Ballet 2 - Beginner Ballet 2

The second level of beginner ballet continues to build a strong foundation in both technique and vocabulary. Classes focus on combinations to develop memorizing movements and patterns. Spatial awareness is developed within the body and well as in relation to other dancers and the room. Additionally, these classes begin to incorporate the elements of musicality and artistry to keep the dancers engaged as they drill basic movements and are challenged with new steps.

Ballet 1- Beginner Ballet 1

Beginner ballet classes for ages 8 to 11. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of classical ballet technique. Students learn proper body alignment along with foot, leg and arm positions. They begin to develop turn-out along with ballet terminology movements. Classes include floor strengthening, barre work, center exercises and moving across the floor. Suitable for dancers with little to no prior ballet, The class lays down the foundation needed to successfully study the art of ballet.

Teen & Adult Classes

We offer ballet, tap, and jazz classes for women and men, ages 13 and up. No prior dance experience necessary. Every Summer we have Intro to Ballet which is an 8-week session towhere you learn the foundations of classical ballet.

This class is for students age 12 - adult. The 8-class course introduces you to all the positions and basic movements you will need to continue in the Beginner Teen/Adult class that starts in the Fall at the beginning of a new school year. No prior dance experience is necessary, and modifications are given for those with a physical limitation. Please do not wear loose clothing. Any yoga clothing will be good to wear to class.
