Sondance Sumter

Where worship and dance ministry combine...Liturgical, Flags, Drama and dance to celebrate your gift of movement. Open to public for dancers in Sumter and surrounding areas. We often perform in area churches.

Ballet Intensive

All things Ballet for experienced dancers. We teach classroom etiquette, foundations and barre. In addition, we learn variations from famous ballets with dance history and more!

Tap Dance

Rhythm, sound, somp, clap, and shuffle off to Buffalo. We explore all tap from the original masters to the hip new hoofers, as in Mumbles from Happy Feet. (Otherwise known as Savion Glover). In our tap classes, students will explore the art of creating rhythmic sounds through the intricate footwork and movements of tap dance. From classic tap styles to contemporary variations, students will learn various steps, combinations, and rhythms that make tap dance a unique and exciting form of self-expression. These classes are grouped by age and experience.

Lyrical

Imagine ballet but without all the rules. Dance with freedom and without all of the structure. Students will explore the fusion of technique and artistry, learning to convey emotions and tell stories through flowing movements, graceful lines, and nuanced expressions. We encourage our dancers to connect deeply with the contemporary Christian music we use, interpreting the lyrics and melodies to create visually stunning and emotionally evocative performances.

Jazz Dance

Based on the jazz techniques from New York to LA, we introduce students to a fun world of cool moves, turns, and leaps. Jazz dance is known for its syncopated rhythms, dynamic movements, and lively expression and requires flexibility that we develop through warmup and center floor exercises. These classes focus on building a solid technical foundation while encouraging students to bring their own personality and individuality to their movements. Hip-Hop

In our Contemporary classes, students will delve into the foundations of contemporary dance technique, which combines elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. This style emphasizes fluidity, organic movements, and exploring different dynamics and qualities.

Pre-Pointe

These classes prepare ballet dancers for the technical and physical demands of dancing en pointe. Here, we focus on building strength, developing proper technique, and improving foot and ankle flexibility to ensure a safe and successful transition to dancing on pointe shoes. We offer these classes for students with at least two years of classical ballet training. Teacher recommendation is required for participation as students must have strong ankles and fully developed feet. These classes are grouped by age and experience. Ballet and Pointe Shoes will be fitted in December.

Classical Ballet

Grace and balance can sum it up best. Classical ballet focuses on proper body alignment, turnout (rotation of the legs from the hips), and intricate footwork. It emphasizes balance, extension, and control. Dancers learn a vocabulary of specific movements, positions, and steps. No serious performer or dancer should be without the foundation of dance. It makes all other dance forms look better! These classes are grouped by age and experience.

Cheer / Cheer Pom

Led by a former college dance team and current high school dance team members, students will learn various skills and techniques essential to cheerleading and pom routines. From mastering sharp and precise cheer motions to executing dynamic pom routines, students will develop coordination, strength, and performance skills. Baton

Step into the world of twirling and rhythmic movement with our fun and energetic baton classes! Designed for students of all ages and skill levels, our baton classes provide a unique blend of dance, coordination, and fundamental techniques of twirling and manipulation using a baton. Students will develop hand-eye coordination, timing, balance, and body awareness during each class as they twirl their batons and execute various tricks. Students will also have the opportunity to explore creative expression by incorporating dance movements and footwork into their routines. Batons can be purchased through our store.

Advanced Pointe (Ages 11 -up)
