The Rising Stars of Sumter is a non-profit performing dance company specializing in educating and entertaining through all forms of dance. The group was formed in 1996 and looks forward to another exciting year! Based at Miss Libby’s School of Dance, the group is made up of 44 girls who compete extensively throughout the Southeast area. Rising Stars also perform at many community and civic functions each year.

Xcel Team

The Xcel Program is designed to offer a broad-based, competitive experience outside the traditional Jr. Olympic Program to attract and retain a diverse group of athletes. It embraces all skill levels and routines are personalized from the entry level. XCel team offers 5 levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.

Compulsory Team

The compulsory team at Miss Libby’s includes Levels 1 to 5. The focus of this program is to further develop our gymnasts in physical conditioning, advanced skills, and entry level competitions. These important levels of gymnastics introduce both parents and athletes to competitive gymnastics.

USAG Optional Program: Level 7

is a mix of both compulsory and optional. In Level 7, it is a mix of compulsory and optional because the requirements are more specific but each gymnast still has a unique routine.

USAG Optional Program: Level 6

USAG Compulsory Program: Levels 1 – 5

Levels 1 – 5 are compulsory levels, meaning all gymnasts in the same compulsory level will perform basic skills in a routine choreographed and provided by USA Gymnastics. Routines and skills become more difficult on each event as gymnast progress through the levels.

Tumbling

Tumbling classes are great for cheerleaders, dancers, or anyone interested in learning how to tumble for fun or fitness. Classes consist of basic through advance tumbling progressions, drills, and skills.

School Age Classes

We strive to provide our school age classes students with a safe and challenging gymnastics environment which allows them to have fun while improving their level of fitness, coordination, and self-confidence. School age classes are available for those age 5 and up. Each class offers both conditioning and gymnastics training in all four gymnastic events.

Preschool Classes

In our preschool class, we strive to provide our students with a safe and challenging environment that allows them to have fun while improving their level of fitness and self-confidence. Parent and tot classes are offered for ages 9 months-2 years. Preschool classes are offered for ages 3-4 years. Most classes are co-ed with fun, safe, and healthy play, introducing all four gymnastics events. This physical activity will develop your child’s strength, flexibility, and coordination, acting as a springboard for other sports.

Optional Team

Miss Libby’s Optional Team includes Levels 6 to 10. Opticals focus on the gymnast demonstrating their abilities, creativity, and advanced skills by developing their own routine. Gymnasts' routines consist of special difficulty requirements which are finely tuned at the optional level.

USAG Optional Program: Levels 8-10

Each gymnast has a unique routine on each event, and she chooses which skills to use to fulfill the requirements. The requirements for Level 9 get more complex. Level 10 is the last level in the JO program. Once a gymnast can perform all the skills required at level 10 she may choose to try out for the Elite program. The Elite program is similar to going “Pro” in other sports, because once in this program a gymnast can compete in Olympic Trials or other professional events.

Minis – 3-4 Year Old

Gymnast learn the concept of progressing through “activity stations.” Gymnast warm-up together while focusing on proper stretching techniques through games, role play, songs, and rhymes. After warm-ups, the group will practice 2 events per class then end practice with a game or trampoline. Gymnast learn to hop, jump, kick, roll, go upside down, support their body weight on their hands on the floor, and kick their feet in the air; all skills which prepare them for higher level gymnastics such as cartwheels, handstands, and bridges. On the bars they learn to swing, hang in different positions, support themselves in a front-support, go around backward on the bar, and execute a pull-over on the bar. The beams are used to teach stationary balance skills, along with walking forward, backward and sideways, kicks and jumps. Accessories such as foam blocks, bean bags, and cones are used as teaching aids.

Juniors - 5-6 Year Old

This class teaches basic gymnastics skills on vault, bars, balance beam, floor, and trampoline, while using stations and accessories such as incline-mats, folding-mats, donut-mats and barrels. These teaching aids assist gymnast as they learn more difficult gymnastics skills. Class begins with a 15 minute warm up that includes cardio and stretching. After warm-ups the group will work 2 events per class. Many students will learn how to roll forward and backward, do a cartwheel, do a handstand up against a wall or mat, walk forward and backwards on the beam, in addition to kick walks, dip walks, and balance moves. On bars they will learn how to do a glide swing, begin a pull over by themselves, and feel comfortable in the front support position. Vault drills are designed to teach students proper technique in running and jumping on the board, and how to do a variety of jumps off the board.

Pre-team – 7 – 11 Year Old

Gymnasts are introduced to the basic exercises, skills, and conditioning needed in order to advance to team. Our main focus in this group is to practice is strength and flexibility training to achieve proper technique, and the development of gymnastics skills. It also allows the gymnasts to get used to the time commitment of the sport. The ultimate goal for the Senior group is to advance to our competitive gymnastics team.
